GT STARLET HELP

Postby drift_taxi » Wed May 03, 2006 11:47 pm

im thinking of buying a gt starlet. i saw it and when the guy went to start it the engine would kind of turn over but not start. what could that mean? and when it did start it blew blue smoke (kind of lokey blueish) what does that mean? (im kind of guessing that would be eithere the head gasket or the seals) is so how much would either cost to fix.
this is ergent so if you have any information that i requere please email me at go_cky2k@hotmail.com
thanks alot.

Yea clicking and strugling to turn over will be a dead battery, But blue smoke isnt the turbo they smoke thick white stinky smoke when the seals let go, blue is more likely to be ya rings or a shaged headgasket, and if its only on start up ya valve guild seals.
If its a headgasket/vavleguild seal thats prob the better part of $1k and if its the rings kiss goodby to $2k+

Blue smoke =
PCV valve (cheap to fix)
Valve stem seals (reasonably cheap to fix if bought as part of engine gasket set)
Headgasket - cheap to buy even aftermarket
Rings - not very dear either just expensive to replace due to labour costs
Valves - getting up there to buy and replace

White smoke =

Turbo (i know been thru 3 turbos already)

Hard to start,

Battery
Starter motor
dizzy
fuel pump or injectors or both (mine use to be hard to start on facto injectors and pump)

If yur after prices for stuff contact Mr Revhead hes the official guy here.

Hope this helps. Feel free to email me if you need more info

3g maybe its hard to say without knowing the exact problems and condition....most stocksih GT's starlets go for around 5-6k so yeh...maybe take the car to your local mechanic and get him to check it over and identify the problem so you know exactly what your in for

Well all my turbos blew white smoke for ages before i replaced them, blue smoke has so far only been either pcv valve or valve stem seals. I dont know anything about hondas (other than there is now one less thanks to the womans one that just went up in smoke on Princess street  ) so I dont know what any of their wear indicators are. Having had my GT for 5 years now I know what the wear indicators are and can advise people accordingly on them 8)

Personally I wouldnt pay much for it, any more than 4K for a gt starlet stocka or not is a rip. But yes take it to a mechanic you know and trust or if you belong to the AA get them to check it out.

Yip I totally agree with harlet turbos smoke white smoke, Ive done 5 so far, everyone of them was thick white some. Headgaskets can be pricy jobs if you are paying someone todo them and the head needs machining

Very good, and that can mean turbos can smoke ethier blue OR white.

If the seal on the compresser side is leaking, you get blue smoke, as the oil is being burnt in motor, and if its the exhaust side, its white smoke.

(my turbo seal let go on compresser side).

Easy way to tell, undo a intercooler pipe and lok for oil. If there is a fair bit of oil its a leaking seal on the compresser side causing the smoke, if not, then you will have to look further.
