If it is, I see your "suicide at 50k" and raise you 10kph.

Thats the corner, yes. Woke up with some mean whip lash this morning. I think the cause was that i tapped the brakes at the wrong moment while taking the corner too sharply...the cop who took me home seemed pretty adament i'd get done for careless driving, which is fair enough and hopefully i can use my diversion to escape any criminal record.

At least hopefully this will make the council do something about that corner. In the words of the old lady whos pole i plowed "this road is just a race track for all those young hoons." I know it is Grandma, i know it is :P

Regarding the wreck i called up state and asked them about buying it back...they said their 'wreckage team' would determine its value and then offer to sell it to me. I just want the tyres though

Insurance should pay the cost of the pole - that is the idea behind insurance, correct?

I took out a big chunk of fencing with my car (went through it backwards at about 100kph... Its GM straight so I was allowed  ), they paid me out the value of the car, and ALSO paid the cost of the fence which was in the region of 2.5K.

Insurance cover all liabilities...including towie/storage. My mate only had 3rd party when he fell asleep at the wheel...the pole he crashed into got taken out and the bill was 4.5k!!!!

mmm... that corner isn't that bad... you can see it an all.
The corner turning into Whakatiki Street (coming from north on river road) is much tighter and deceptive.

careless driving charge coming your way.

Jesus I got spotted. 8O

Wasn't thaaat bad. Round the back (or front?) of camp coming onto GM straight - first rain in a fortnight, I was a retard in a nutshell. Has accelerated up to about 100kph soon as the sign said I could, to find a little corolla ahead round the bend. Came off the gas, tapped the brakes - rear end let go (go figure  ) and I went backwards through the fence into trentham camp.

Which I had just left about 2 minutes prior.

Car looked fine - it bounced along the fence and washed off heaps of speed before it finally came to a stop against a pole - but the joys of crumple zones meant it was a write off - however I wasn't, luckily. Goodbye NZ's fastest TT vr4  Did leave some awesome skid marks for about 100m though!

Lesson learned - well, maybe. Did take away a bit of the invincibility complex all 19 y old males have at least.

Back to the topic - I can see how potentially a car could have an oops there, however you must have been doing SOMETHING to convince it to. Cars dont tend to lose all traction and fly into power poles at under 50kph unless you're provoking them to, or you're on ice.

Front ones are brand new ;)

pc: I know im going to get a careless driving charge...but that doesnt change the fact that the corner is still a bitch. The corner your talking about is waaay better than the one i crashed on.

At least I got a week off work

I guess i must have tapped the brakes or something, but to be honest (theres no point lying on the net :P ) i wasn't acting the fool nor being a larakin nor trying to be a super spec drift master whilst driving my car round said corner. Lesson learnt :) Bring on my new car...any ideas?

Well, i advise you get a lawer, i have 2 driving convictions to my name now and from experiance every time the prosecution would make it sound so bad i wouldn't have let me out of the court room. It wasn't that bad however and if i had a good criminal lawer looking back i doubt i would have been charged in the end. I did pleed guilty both times under some bad advise.
I still have a good insurance record having never claimed for anything i have caused. If your with state and they write off your car... i doubt they will offer you more insurance on your next purchase. They seem to do that after a total loss situation. I know peope who have been there.
GO AND SEE A REPUTAL LAWER BEFORE YOU ACCEPT LIABILTY!!!

altho i think you already have :(

Waaaay ahead of ya mate :) I've got a solicitor all lined up...although i want to go Ally McBeal on their asses and represent myself.

I'm putting together a case at the moment, putting the burdon of proof squarely in the hands of the police. They will use all the classic argument to frame me as 'just another young and reckless driver.'

For example, it will be their argument that im young and therefore inexperienced etc etc. Well under our Bill of right its illegal to discriminate because age, race, religion etc, so there goes that argument. Also i've been to the doctor, taken pictures and made sure to keep a record of EVERYTHING just incase the coppers get a little too over zealous when proscecuting me.

Heres hoping all goes well and i get to have some fun in court :)

FWD driving lesson.

1) Back steps out
2) Driver immediately needs to mash the throttle.

This crash aint the fault of FWD this crash is because nobody ever taught you what to do if you step a FWD out.

Too true :) Looks like im going to have to do some proper training. Its not really something you anticipate, and perhaps there should be more compulsory training in the licence process.
