ae101 ecu and speedcut question

How do you get to a ae101 ecu? Ive tried unscrewing lotsa panels but they dont seem to come off, are there any hidden screws? And does the ae101 stock ecu have a speed cut? I heard there is one around 200kph?

185Km/h is the normal speed cut. needle will go way past that but the speedo in that range is highly innacurate.
There is no need to remove any panels at all, just remove the drivers foot rest, the ecu is held by 2(?) nuts it can be pulled out from opposite side of the drivers foot rest, through opening wich is covered by carpet...

To remove drivers footrest use a big screwdriver to undo the 2 plastic screws. They look a bit like part of the footrest.
To remove the ECU you will need to pull back the carpet on the drivers side of the centre console, unplug the ecu and undo the 1 or 2 screws holding it into it's cradle. Then slide it out towards the drivers footwell.

Having seen where the needle ends up at speed cut on a AE101 GT-Z, I'd agree with that, assuming the speed cut is at 185kmph. I thought it was closer to 200kmph though...

same, i remember reading around early 90s that they were lowering the "volantary" speed cut from 200ish to 180

I had it on GPS. the needle was in about 210 region. GPS read 185..









P.S. it was done in controlled conditions.

oh well, doesnt matter. in a stock ae101 your just as fcuked at 185 as you are at 200 if anything happens

When you work it out with revs, i got a answer of 186km.

I guess if you really wanted to take it out you could cut the speed wire, but you would have to make up a thingee to generate a pulse for the ecu, otherwise it would drop into fail safe would it not?

the ecu without the speed input will only rev out to 7800rpm i believe.

Didn't seem to matter on AE101 GTZ just cutting speed sensor wire. Tried one with a switch in the line and with the wire off it means no speed cut, but the check light came on after 5 or 6 seconds of flicking the switch. No noticable drop in engine performance, though it saying that I doubt the engine would be up in the rev limit region in 5th anyway. Light went away with switch back to normal

Yea, just installed my rsm, and it has the ability to cut the speed sensor,but having never reached it anyway I thought Id ask what it was, didnt install the speed cut in the end, doubt id reach 185km/h anytime either!

Assuming the Rev counter and speedo are accurate around 3300rpm and 100kmph respectively (at least my GT-Z seems to be doing about 3300rpm at 100kmph), and assuming you can get to the 7800 rev limit in fifth gear, you'd be doing 230+ kmph. (pick one)

Yea i was reading about the maximum speed on a 20v silvertop with the stock gearbox, at redline in 5th it would be going jst over 250km/h, but then the car doesnt have enough power to overcome drag to get there

I can confirm a silvertop can do 230
