Had a feeling that a topic bout megameet would arise soon..

Taken from a poll which we had a while back viewtopic.php?t=38583 looks like the destination is Wellington for 06

However, if trackday weekend attendance is anything to go by, it wont even be worth organising anything, as no-one will show up, leaving Toyspeed to look like complete turkeys once again. The wellington contingent is strong, but with fuel prices the way they are, i wouldnt expect many people to come down from Auckland, and even less from ChCh when you factor in the cost of getting across on the ferry.

Major problem with this place is when it comes to the crunch, nobody can 'afford it'

yipyip

people seem to be moving away from these things.

what can be done to make it more affordable?

maybe people should set up autiomatic payments of $5-10/week into the TS account to be able to afford it or something.

Hmmm....

i dont making my way down to wellington but going over the straigh is a little over the ole budget. having 'no money' as an excuse not to come is bs man  . if u start saving like $15 a week now, ull be sweet to go down to megameet

where is the commitment 8O

Adrian that might sound like a viable idea but it would cause major amounts of overhead/admin work to contstantly keep track of everyone that is paying in to one account and what the end amount is going to be and getting the money moved backwards and forwards etc.

At the end of the day the main costs involved are petrol/food and accomodation. Petrol being the main one. With that said how exactly are people going to be able to pay for their gas when their money is in the TS account?

The only thing that would be good for is paying for accomodation. And maybe food if it is organised so that there will be a communal dinners/lunch etc. And again with that said, someone would then need to take responsibility for buying and preparing food and also take into concideration vegetarians etc etc etc.... Again allot of work involved.

The poverty isnt from a Toyspeed perspective, as costs of accomodation/events are passed on to the attendee's. Its more the fact that the attendee's themselves cant budget and save effectivly to be able to cover their costs.

When organising we aim to be able to provide the most cost effective accomodation/events that we can where ever possible, and its up to those who choose to attend to front up when the time comes to pay.

Well I'm keen, and would travel from Dunedin, I have 5 seats(4 comfortably), and splitting it 4 ways wouldn't be too bad(hell, even two ways would be good enough for me to go).

I guess Toyspeed lacks commitment.

Labour Weekend

i went to the Auckland one last year and it was great!
however i was a bit dissapointed that there was way more out-of-towners present than there was Aucklanders!

met so many cool people, and made plenty of mates, had a blast!
put faces to names, cars to forum names, ate some bad food ( http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b346/ ... Chuck2.jpg ) etc etc
(and get very boozed, anyone remember someone having a blah? http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b346/ ... Bucket.jpg )

start saving pennies, and dont use BS excuses to get out of it
plan to have a car full travel down or up
plan and pay in advance if you can
dont use the general piking TS attitude

i *may* be interested in using one of my (dormant/empty) bank accounts to do a savings/payment scheme if anybody is sure they cant save money themselves.

After the great success of the last three years it would be a shame if the masses didn’t get to this years Mega Meet. However in saying that I have noted a lack of enthusiasm for anything at the moment. How about a wonderful Wellington member gets a few basic prices together for accommodation and suggests a few things to do over the Labour weekend. Perhaps if that is presented now it will give people enough time to start saving and get in the right mind set of having a holiday over the long weekend. I’ve been to two of the three we’ve had and I have totally enjoyed myself. It’s great to meet the faces to the forum members and it’s fantastic to see another town through the eyes of the locals.

So why don’t we all stop bitching about why we wont all go and get a plan to actually attend and make it a success this year. I for one would be rapt to see an event get off the ground for this year rather making 2006 for Toyspeed a disappointment with no major events
.
We have around 20 weeks to go before Labour weekend so I’m sure that is more than enough time to get yourselves into gear and saving. Save $40 per week for 20 weeks is $800. That should be enough for most of you to get there and have a great weekend I’m certain. See its simple when you start to do figures and just make the commitment to go rather than being a nah-sayer and bagging the idea.

All it takes is just one person to start to make the plans. It’s not actually that hard to organise this sort of even. (Well in my opinion it’s not)

Anyway… my $2.00 worth.

:D

i'm not talking about the whole weekend but rather only accomodation.

with people having made a commitment to pay their non-refundable accomodation off then they will be missing out if they dont wanna turn up..

having it setup so its paying off their accomodation and making it non refundable (within reason such as unforseen cirmstances, nothing like "oh i cbf'd" or "i ran out of money" but genuine reasons) then it should work.

once there has been the commitment for a deposit for accomodation made reguarally yhen people will keep to it.

When we get back from Trackday this weekend I'll hopefully find some time during the week to have a look around at some places for accomodation. The problem with accomodation mainly being that you will probabley have to book well in advance, and then people need to be committed to it, this trackday being a prime example of how that can fall through, which is sad after all the effort that went in to preparing it. (And I don't think many people would be keen on the incentive of non-refundable deposits or something like that)

Never the less I will try :) Stay Tuned.

Excelelnt, good on you for taking up the challenge. You have plenty of time if you get onto the accommodation now I'm sure you'll be able to find something there. The last place that members stayed at was good as it had the large common room and had plenty of parking.

:)
