Blacktop - PS with no AC

Postby Santa'sBoostinSleigh » Wed Jun 14, 2006 11:39 pm

Has anyone got a good solution to a small problem i have come across:

Blacktop motor, removed a/c
this means that the power steering belt is way too long

now i could whack on a shorter belt, but how do you keep it tight?

pics would be great ;)

I think some people have gutted the aircon leaving only the pulley and front bearing with nothing else left - I have seen it once...
Talk to Ewan (10k20v) as he did it on his mad AE101 fire breathing monster!
(I'll try to sort out the headlight to you tomorrow)

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

What i done was, i took the ac pump off, took the mount it bolted to with the tensioner all off, took the top bolt out of the ps pump so that it swivels on the bottom bolt, went a brought a belt that just fit on when i pushed the ps pump right foward, pulled the ps pump back so that it tightened the belt, then done the bottom bolt up tight, never had a problem since, i can get pics and belt size if you want?

What I did too :).

But i also added a small bracket between the top mount hole of the PS pump, and the hole in the bracket where it is meant to lock into.

Just got certed a couple of days ago, so all good.

sorry i forgot about getting you the pics and belt size, i lost the packet it came in which said the length, but i did get numbers off it, 5pk0890 350k5 a.26, go to BNT and tell them those numbers and im sure they will know, heres some pics, the circled bolt is the bottom bolt that the ps pump swivels on to tighten it..

An other very easy option, when i did blacktop convertion in my NZ AE82, u know how nz new once didnt had AC pump just a bracket with pulley, so i just swaped them around, NZ new bracket on blacktop, the problem only to get that bracket with pulley, if u licky u'll find it in pickapart
