running exhaust off external wastegate

would there be any issues in running a seperate exhaust off the external wastegate, and running it through its own muffler and exiting just behind the drivers door?

i dont want excessive "screamer" noise coming from the car, but would like to do something a wee bit different.

Think it also has to be behind the mid point of the car as well as 40mm behind the rear most door which ever is furthest back, although in your case it will be 40mm behind the door.
Double check because i remember reading this somewhere but can't find it now that i'm actually looking for it.

have you thought about just plumbing it back into the exhaust??, You just need to run it through a flexi so the pipe doesnt crack.

plumbing it back into the exhaust isn't really all that different, hence why he's thinking about giving the wastegate it's own mini exhaust system, of sorts

im assuming the same rules will apply as with your exhaust. i think the only reason people get away with having a screamer pipe is they just look like some sort of discreet dump pipe that doesnt leak at idle while they are doing the wof and doesnt grab attention. i guess if u make it look more like a 'mini exhaust' its gunna stand out like dogs balls and they are gunna go "hmm yeh, nah that wont do"..

mind u.. if it was a v8 in an old (insert preferred 50's/60's cruiser here) .. and u swapped the wastegate for side exiting pipes controlled by some dodgy 50's mechanical flap device controlled by a funky retro in-cab cable/lever thingy that couldnt seal the exhaust if its exsitence relied on it then yeh sure, not a problem. iv seen it happen.

dont those 2 sentences kinda contradict each other? a screamer pipe that exits inside the engine bay is illegal for that very reason, it exits in the engine bay. you are allowed a seperate pipe from the external wastegate as long as it exits within the the exhaust guidelines set out by the LVVTA, which allow rear or side exiting exhausts. if you watched PCTV the other week one of the skylines in the streetcar challenge or whatever had a dump pipe that was short and exited in the engine bay, the cert guy they had on the show said to either plumb it back or extend it to the rear of the car.

wastegate pipes also tend to vent a fair few flames as well when the engine is being abused , probly another reason why its not so good to have them venting inside the engine bay.
although thats where mine currently vents to , id like to have it plumbed into the exhaust but thats a low priority and can be done when i eventually get a whole new system.

my exhaust doesnt have a flexi joint in it.

yeah if you're going that route the best time to do it is when you do the rest of the exhaust, a friend of mine had his exhaust done and then failed a WOF because of his dump pipe, had to pay $300 to get it plumbed back, probably would have been cheaper if he'd done it first time round.

probably best to ask an exhaust place about that, i have one on my soarer (came on the standard downpipe im using) but the exhaust doesn't seem to move at all so i dont know that it was really needed, i guess better safe than sorry?

hmm ok.
the reason im wanting to go seperate pipe is to make the exhaust/manifold easier to remove.
if it was a seperate pipe it could just be unbolted from the waste gate and then removed.

and my exhaust is already made, 2.5" one lukey muffler and an action dan special.

will have to get the downpipe remade to suit the new turbo.

will the exhaust from the wastegate be quiet enough, if only passing through one muffler?

i assume it will be a small diameter pipe, so it shouldn't be too loud, probably also depends on the length muffler you plan on using

my other post about my mate failing his wof was directed at flygt4, i should have specified sorry matt

yeah, will be a smaller diameter pipe, probably 1.5".
will probably be about 1.5m-2m of pipe work.

will have to go to a muffler shop to see what sort of mufflers they can do, but even a mini super turbo style would probably be ok, and then a small tip just infront of the rear wheel, probably not visible unless you know its there kinda thing
