HI, i got word that chucking blue top cams in a non tvis redtop, last generation, is a good idea, cos they got higher duration etc ,Is it?cheers

Go for it, specs are
Bluetop: 240' duration 7.56mm lift
Redtop-tvis: 232' duration 7.1mm lift

They only changed the cams due to emissions regulations. Cheap mod for small gain.

not really worth the hassle unless you already have it in bits.

not sure how much difference they make on n/a but have been shown to make a small difference on fi

Im putting bluetops in mine before i chuck it back on the dyno with new link and fuel upgrade, Is it really worth it though?. I mean if its not going to make that much of a differance Id rather spend a bit more money on a decent set.
Would 272 cams be ok for street? I mean would I still have a reasonable idle and be able to achieve a reasonable tune with a link? or would they be a bit too much for street car? Im aiming for 190 ~ 200kw atw!

$20 compared to $1000, its not a "bit more".

272's will idle ok for street, but thats not even an issue. The power band, is.

stock cams have been proven to well over your target figure. just look at bazda's car, 330 kw on stockers (blacktop but hey)

To answer the original question. Your butt dyno wont even notice it. Every little bit counts tho

Well initially a good power band is what Im after but I dont want to affect the driveability too much as is a daily driver, Anyone know any before and after (KW) figures on what sort of approx gain Id get with 272's??, What would need to be done to head etc to fit them as in regards to springs buckets etc? Are they a suitable cam for a turboed car in the way of overlap etc??

Can anyone shed some light?

what lift 272's?

Kind of hard to say a before and after, as a whole lot of other things need to be done first.

There a good choice for turbo car, but maybe not a street turbo car, ive seen 304 8mm lift toda cams in a 4agte, and it cracked 500ps at the wheels, but it had mucho no powero until 6.5k.....

Generally small displacement, high rpm engines dont have much going on down low. (Even more so when modded)

Is was just curious, think I will just chuck in the Blueys and be done with it, Id be happy with 170 atw but if I get a bit more Id be stoked!!!

hey while on the topic of bluetop cams, do you only need the camshafts themselves and thats all, when you want to put the into a red-top, or do you need buckets/shims etc as well?

Well actually technically you should really re shim the head with new shims..... but hey we drive toyota's here and fix exhaust leaks with soup cans and hose clamps

Nah dude, just chuck them in, if youre realllyy keen check your valve clearances, just read my link above.
