Rally of the Far North

If anyone in the Northland area is interested the Northland round of the Top Half Rally Series is on tomorrow. Start and finish is in Paihia, the rally goes out through Broadwood, Kaitaia (lunch stop), Kaeo and near Keri Keri. Not sure where maps will be available from though (possibly Repco???)

And if anyone does come out to a service point to have a lookie keep an eye out for car #61 - that'll be me

just rung dad, 5 minutes from end of first stage "there was a small fire...." not sure on damage, shouldn't be much by the sound of things, dads towing them back now, but they're out of it.

just heard, oil breather melted and put oil on the exhaust, which caught fire, nothing too badly damaged by the sounds of things, but they're calling it at that and heading home anyway. gutted, but this year was gonna be a shakedown year anyway, it's next year that things will be interesting.

Yeah, I saw it in SS1, there was a bit of carnage in there (10 cars at my count).

Had an absolutely awesome event (my first ever rally!), was seeded #69 and ended up 31st overall and 3rd in class - totally stoked! The old Rolla (yes, an AE92) never missed a beat all day except for a broken exhause mount. Pics will hopefully come later in the week.

This is what happens when things go wrong... One of my mates in the car club, leading the class by approx 2 minutes after 3 stages then got caught by an off-camber corner on SS4 (a very fast stage)

5 times over (at his count)and down a good 20 metre drop and the rollcage did not move at all. Seats (Autosport kevlar) survived without breaking, despite the drivers one twisting as the seat mounts moved. Nets and/or perspex windows seem like a good thing as his hand went flying out the window during one of the rolls and got trapped (we think between car and ground, luckily the ground was soft mud).

Oh yeah, big thanks to all the organisers, marshals and timing crews.

Cheers, was very happy with the result considering the motor/computer/gearbox (TRD LSD though!) is completely standard

Ha, that would be Lance, a real funny bloke We both belong to the same club and talk shit at events, for the rally he was staying at the same motel as us along with the rest of his clan. Get him to show you the in-car footage from his rollover!
