blacktop

Postby fxgt race » Wed Jun 28, 2006 8:48 pm

I have slimiar set up,blacktop, valves three angle cut,new cams intake278 with 9.17 lift, exhaust 286 with 8.9 lift, new springs, and adjustable cam gears, silvertop rods, trd head gasket.I looked at toda but was a bit pricey for me and my engine builder cut me a deal for franklin cams for $1500 for the new cams, springs, and cam gears,I run a link lem and without a idle up she is a pain when cold, have to open bonnet and plug a credit card in the stop screw and the butterflys to keep the revs up till shes warm.had it dyno at 118kw 160hp at the wheels,or about 190 at the fly,I think it has a bit more as i had a stop under the excelerater pedal for the old engine set up and on the new engine it didn't allow the butterflys to open up fully, pity i didn't see this till after the dyno run and the $550 dollars later.

Work Update

Postby BZR4AGE » Tue Jul 18, 2006 3:24 pm

Just been to the workshop today to check out the car.
most of the machining work are done. and here is a pic of the block bore to 82mm, and also the crank cleaned and prepped. Conrods are still in the process of being shot peened (spelling - my english is bad), head is also ready, but didn't take picture because it was in plastic wrapping and I better not mess up the stuff for the good guys in the workshop.

Now just waiting for the damn oil pump (taking a long time ex-japan, ran out of stock and needed to make a new one)

During the mod process, i managed to spent a bit more money LOL.
1) a new oil cooler
2) new oil pump, as my old one was buggered
3) a new ECU (was going to wait a while first, but wht the heck, get it all done while at it - getting the E-manage ultimate, i know people have had bad experiences with the E-manage, but the workshop guys said the new ultimate is much better, easier to tune, and also more functions than an link LEM and also cheaper, and also will not stall my car even if I have the AC turnned on, and the guys at the workshop are confident with it, so I give them my full trust).
4) New disc rotors for the front, trying to get something like DBA or something, as my old one failed WOF

Was going to get TRD main and big end bearings, but the workshop guys adviced me is not worth it, genuine ones will do, so I am sticking with genuine bearings.

Should be another 2 weeks to complete, JUST WAITING FOR THE DAMN OIL PUMP!

actaully the TRD bearings may well be worth it....
what power you aiming for? and more importantly what RPMs?

power wise, really don't know - probably just about 200hps at the fly, and also RPM, wasn't going to go anything above 9500.
because I heard that the only difference between nissan and nismo bearings are just bigger oil groves or something (correct me if I am wrong revhead). I know is toyota, but are they the same story?

How different is the TRD ones compared to genuine ones revhead?
and how much RPM you reckon for genuine bearings,
and how much RPM you reckon for TRD ones

Cheers Revhead

different material and the oil groove on BOTH halves of the shell
for those revs and power i STRONGLY recomend TRD bearings

the other advantage of TRD bearings is unlike other brands they make several sizes, so that makes it easier to get your clerances with less machining and mucking around
