my exhaust doesnt have a flexi joint in it.

You only need it for the wastegate pipe when it joins back into the exhaust, as the sudden rush of exhaust gas makes them flex, then contract as they cool down again.

ah yep, that makes sence. so if it was a seperate exhaust pipe, it should be fine without a flexi?

Do you guys watch performance car tv, esp the street car challenges? Ive seen a few cars go through the wof section of the competetion with externals pointing straight down, no probs at all. They seem to be quite happy to pass them on national tv.

ok i havnt read all of the posts. but ive seen some cars with a separate exhaust (for the wastegate)

so it wouldnt be super original, and surely itll just cost more and wont have any gains?

or would it??

hey dude.

there are some cars out there with similar set ups to how i want to do this.
but yeah i have a couple of reasons for wanting to do it like this.

i dont want the noise, and would like a seperate pipe for when i need to remove the turbo, manifold etc.

much easier if downpipe and wastegate pipe is seperate

should get quite a nice sound out of it like this too

true never thought about that, i change my vote, do it. even if it just gets to the rear axle regoin itll sound way different too 2 feet of pipe.!

what size piping would you need to run?

Just curious to what model of lukey muffler do you have? How loud does it sound in general around idle?

I bought a couple a while back for a project but never got around to have them fitted. However planning to use one for a new project so yeah, wondering what they actually perform like?

Cheers

Hi, i used to have the lukey muffler at the exit of the exhaust and a straight through resonator half way up the exhaust, it was fairly loud with that when i was running the n/a straight 6. not long before the turbo conversion i got rid of the resonator and put an action dan cannon style muffler at the rear and the lukey muffler where my resonator was.
the torque felt slightly better down low, and it was much quieter.
it gave a very nice sound with this set up.

it was even quieter with the turbo motor, and dont think it would give any problems at wof time once its back on the road

Yes, thats a good and legal way to do things.

Good luck to anyone who tries to make it vent by free - revving it, so you won't fail on noise. And since its' behind the passenger compartment, its legal in that respect too.

I've seen a couple of cars done that way, it sounds quite cool. From inside the car it sounds tough, from outside it just sounds feral (wether you like that or not is another story).

One of the exhaust shops down here refuses to do externals venting downwards, they will run the pipe to the back of the car however.

For extra cool points, I suggest having the wastegate pipe run out the bonnet, and up the "a" pillar. At the top of it, have a little flapper on it, like a truck. That way you don't need a boost gauge - just watch how much the flap opens through the sunroof
