Valve springs for turbo 4age

Postby no_8wire » Fri Jul 28, 2006 10:01 am

This is directed to those who are running highish boost in their 4agtes...
10+ psi...

What springs are you using? Standard or hardened etc?

i'm using std, but being the 4agze motor as the base, i'd think that they are stronger than the n/a ones, if you wanna run silly boost like barry, you'll need heavy duty valve springs

what head you using? i'd say most 4age heads and std valve springs would be ok for that boost

My bluetop head is fine on 14psi.

You should be fine till at least 18-20 i'd say. Probably even higher. I don't think evlgtz was using anything over than std and he was running 18??

Maybe you just need new springs?
Springs sag and can wear over time... Sure they didn't mean, "you just need some new springs cause your old ones are sad.".

yeah but like his motor, mine, bazda's old one, andy, all are the 4agze motor as a base, allready being supercharged, will have heavier valve springs than the n/a ones expecially for the higher boost, 18+. not saying they wont work, try asking drifter4ag what he used, not sure how much boost he ran on his old setup, 16psi?

Hmmm, I can't see any difference in the two springs (got a gze head in bits, as well as a redtop and a bluetop).

Not saying your wrong, but why would toyota do that? Esp when they are only designed for 8ish psi on s/c.

all the 4age heads have the same rate valve springs, they will easily handle up to 20psi 8000rpm.
But to be safe and if ur rebuilding the head and got soem spare cash lying around they arent that expensive, I think around $400 from Performance springs in australia (through Kelford) and that will provide around double the rate from standard.

Im using Crow Cram springs in my 4AGTE.
The 4age springs i measured have about 40psi seat pressure.
The crow springs have 90psi seat pressure and i paid $100 for them from Kiwicams in palmy.
The cams i have required at least 70psi seat pressure.
