2E rev limit?

Postby Kender » Fri Jul 28, 2006 7:58 pm

Hi

Does anyone happen to know what the rev limit is for a 2E engine?
I've just bought a 1989 EE90 Corolla with 2E engine, but the car doesn't have a rev counter. I do however, know that it has no trouble doing 100km in 2nd gear 8)

Haha ouch. The rev limit for a 2E would be around the 6000rpm~6500rpm mark. It will probably valve bounce not far after that.

My injected 2E would do 7000 before it redlined. 60 in 1st, 107 in second, 150 in 3rd and so on. Didn't go much past that though.

I'm in the middle of installing a tacho in the EE90 at the moment. Have to admit I'm interested to know how many revs my little car was pulling. I'm finding the carby engine interesting as I'm used to efi engines with fuel cutoffs and electronic committees vetoing my decisions. The engine revs freeley, and it quite often feels too early to change out of 2nd before 80km

My carby 1e goes to 8000rpm on the tacho (fitted the Si dash).
My old 2e efi used to go to 7000-7200 before the ecu stepped in.
My old 2et used to get to 6800.

According to the aftermarket tacho I've hooked up, 100km in 2nd is 7200rpm. Changed to early, I still had 800rpm to go  I've found that I'm less willing to repeat this, now that I can see exactly how many revs the little 2e's pulling
