mother of crap!!! dont use flux wire!!!
splatter from arse to breakfast.
migs are pretty good but gasless wire is too much. i wont allow it!!!
p.s, i just did all this research as regards mig vs tig. there is little cost diffrence between comparable machines. mig is the more well used but there is no questinon that tig is the more versatile welder, and with a bit of practice youll get a better result no matter what you medium.
i guess this makes it my 4 cents.

I disagree. there is more splatter than when using ordinary wire with gas, but abit of fiddling with wire speed and heat settings will eliminate most of it. the rest can be cleaned up in 30 seconds with a wire brush anyway.

seconded. because we don't have a high demand for welding at work, i only use gasless flux-core wire and don't have major splatter issues.
I've been a bad bad boy. I should read the rules and behave before I get spanked by an admin

It all depends on budget...

Pies, you can buy direct from the supplier to get a Cygweld, mine cost me $1400 odd for a commercial mig. I ran with c02 (soda stream bottles) for 6 months, before moving to Argosheild.

Migs a piece of piss to use (esp if you get an automatic darkening helmet). Tig is an art from. Arc is for making trailers and fixing boats, way too heavy for car stuff (I have one too, waste of time, the mig does it all if you get a good one)

Only downside is stainless steel... =(, and you need to re-engineer half of a mig for alloy

get the wrong reel of wire off the garage shelf, and try using ordinary wire without gas however, and it's a different story, splatter from ar$e to breakfast, and beyond!!

pies go to a welding shop and ask there for advice on welders

ive just read this threed and IMO the couple of accurate resposes are completely hidden buy the rest of bushit spewing forth

mig/mag, tig and arc are all good welders
you can with practice make arc welds as nice as mig
and for teh record
YOU CANNY MAKE MIG WELDS LOOK LIKE TIG WELDS
unless your a complete retard with a tig or you dont know how to tell
