Well, just got some Toda cams (272 and 288 with 8.5 and 9.0 lift) and Toda cam gears and TRD head gasket. Now I need some valve springs, Warwick is getting me price and availability on some TRD ones, are there any other options to be found locally? Where have you heard of that stocks them and brands etc?

i got mien from performance springs in australia.
They said they used these on their 20v's with big lift cams and 10k.

I gather your intake is the 288 9mm lift cam? If so I would be tempted to go with the spring designed for your cams. IE Toda. Higher than necessary spring tension will wear the valve train, cam, belt faster, will also rob HP. A lower than necessary spring tension.... not good.

currently got the TRD ones away for testing. also getting stock ones tested as a comparison, however they are still on the way from japan.

should have the TRD results this week

stock was 40/65lbs when I tested them, somewhere in those values anyway, my new ones were 65/95lbs and can be shimmed up to 120lbs.

oh yep.

to be accurate im testing brand new ones of each.

will post all data when i have it.

what exactly do ppl look for when after spring specs? i have to admit to not actaully knowing!

ok had the TRD ones tested.

and they tested to as they say on the website

dunno what your figures mean barry but the "seat pressure" or whatever you want to call it tested at 15kg which according to my converter is 33lb
as a comparison new ones will be tested as soon as the arrive

bearing in mind the stock ones cna handle quite a bit

You dont want the seat pressure to increase. Just the spring rate.

higher spring pressures wont rob horse power, a spring is an energy storage device, the energy used to compress it is given back when decompressed. I would be looking for a spring with around 60psi seat pressure and checking the installed and compressd height to insure its not going coil bound.

ok can some one please clarify the following terms. i think some ppl are using different terms for the same thing.....

now height is pretty simple.
so. what is seat pressure.
by understanding is thats the pressure exerted by the spring with the valve closed?

what other specs are normal?
i gather spring rate?
getting them tested at a certain lift will only apply to one cam.... and as the guy doing this is doing it for free i dont want to piss him off by asking him to do it at 10 different levels

yes seat pressure is when the valve is closed and 8.1mm is the full lift of a blacktop cam (inlet)
