Doors aren't opening

Postby ollieboy » Sat Aug 05, 2006 2:22 pm

Hey,

I just bought a 1983 Corona and the two back doors won't open or unlock. Its a real mongrel, I can't work out why they won't open. Anyone had experience with this before? :?

Is it possible to open a door without the handle?

Cheers

Take the interior panel off, (it'll be hard with the door closed, but its' doable) work out which rod connects the handle to the locking mechanism, and pull it.

It seems odd that both doors are knackered.. maybe child locks are broken?

Either way, once you get them open, you'll see how the mechanisms work, they're quite straightforward.

Won't open from either way. I was hoping I wouldn't have to take the panels off but oh well. Cheers

I've had a similar problem with my Carina
In my case the outside door handle wasn't springing back down far eough an so the lock/unlock levers weren't able to move.
Get some crc - spray it up under the outside handle. Work the handle up and down with what movement you do have. I used a tiny screwdrivier to help lever the handle all the way down once it was sort of free.
Once it is all the way down the locks should work.
Open the door - take off the door card and oil everything but most attention to the door handle pivot points.
Good luck

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!
