Been stories of people fixing it by re doing all their earthing, running a power cable direct from headunit to battery. Havnt tried it my self, SW has cronic dimming problems atm. Its quite funny watching the volt gauge

yeah, maybe its a thing with the earths in older cars.
i have only tried the cap in my 87 fxgt.
the power seemed quite constant with the cap, and the lights dimming all the time was annoying.
In saying that i still get voltage getting low with cap, when lights are on, fan running and a/c going, but thats to be expected.
i also got my 1farad cap with voltage display for $70 brand new, so it was priced to sell.

I've never had any problems with dimming lights either, as dimming lights is simply caused by voltage drop. So get a good enough battery, no voltage drop, hence no dimming lights :)

1000cca, which i thought would be more than up to the task.

CCA is like peak watts - largely meaningless for everyday use.

What IS important is how the battery holds up under load and whether the voltage drops as it provides power. Hence why medium output deep cycles (Optima, etc) work better than supposedly higher output starters :)

Or to explain another way - you want a battery that can do steady, moderate current over a long time, rather than one with a massive burst of current for a few seconds and then goes 'phut' ;)

1000 CCA deep cycle? What brand? Thats a humongous big deep cycle.

Even Optimas, which are widely regarded as the best on the market, are only 750cca.
