4AGE questions..

Further to my other post; I have tried searching for the answers, but can't find anything definite!

Silvertop extractors. I have been offered a set, with most of an AE101 exhaust, for $80. Is that good? And are these a bolt on to my smallport, or will I have to redo the flange, or just slot holes.. ?

TRD headgasket. I have also been offered one of these by the same person, I didn't really want to open my motor up until I had to, but would the performance gain be worth it? I'm not sure what thickness it is, I also don't want to put it in and find the car is a thirsty, detonating bag of sh*t to drive! Opinions? Worth it with factory cams, or is that really dependant on what thickness it is?

Is the air temp sensor currently attached to the airbox totally necessary? Apparently I need to incorporate it into the intake, but I can't see an easy way to do it.

And TEMS! I appear to have 2 suspension options, "soggy" and "not so soggy". I'm just looking to rip them out, and replace them with KYBs or the like, will this affect anything (throwing codes?) electrical?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

if youre going to get 20v extractors, dont bother with silvertop ones, theyre puny compared to blacktop. ideally, you also want the 2-1 section. $80 is a bit dear, expect to pay around $50 for extractors AND 2-1 section (blacktop). and no, they wont just bolt up, they need to be modified slightly

IMO Probably not too bad a price for a whole exhaust... But considering all you want is the extractors and 2 into 1 section.
I get the impression that the silvertop extractors are better than 16V versions, but need to slot a couple of holes to get them on.

Not too sure about this... But it may not do squat. If it's the same thickness as your factory one it will be an expensive waste of time.

Try getting brand new TEMS from Revhead. If all you've got is soggy and soggier, then they're probably really stuffed. Last TEMs I drove on were suitably firm for street use on the hard setting.

not to sure about the extractors but blacktops are bigger

its not recommened to use the trd gaskit here because of the crap fuel speak to revhead anyway

you can get new shcosk form toyota and still have the tems or go to some adjustable kybs, i have coilovers now so cant do anything bad to the electronics

i dont recomend the TRD gasket for the blacktop for a road car.
the others are ok.

Okay, cheers. I'll get the extractors, and see what I can do. I've got a pod filter and some aluminium piping, I'm going to try and incorporate the ATS, but we'll see. I'm not going to bother with the head gasket, with decent cams to work with it, it would probably be more cost-effective to just drop in a silver/blacktop!

Cheers for the advice guys. I'm still wanting further advice/info on setting up the intake.

Get a 45 degree silicone joiner and a straight piece of aluminium piping, put the silicone from the TB to the pipe, stick the sensor into the silicone bend, then stick ya pod filter on the pipe. Then build a heat shield around it, cos it will only suck in hot air.

We recently acquired a 92 GT Levin, [20 valve 4 age- as I'm sure you all know] for my son.
We'd like to be able to have a twiddle with the motor, but have been unable to find any workshop manuals to help.
Techbooks in Newmarket said the only manuals availabe are for standard Corollas with the 4 age motor. Does anyone have any suggestions where I might find this kind of info? thanks.

the standard corolla manuals will be fine, providing the are for late model corollas with 20v 4ages in them (levin = corolla levin)

Sometimes when its warm the idle slows right down, and also its a bit surgey [is that a word?] in second.
So, we're rank beginners...... but you gotta start somewhere, right?

Sometimes when its warm the idle slows right down, and also its a bit surgey [is that a word?] in second.
So, we're rank beginners...... but you gotta start somewhere, right?

Umm.......... just standard 91.

you need at LEAST 95 and even then you need to retard the timing to 8 deg
try it on a tank of 98
