goin for a wof

Postby bluemaumau » Thu Aug 17, 2006 10:37 pm

goin a wof tomorrow so i can get along to the minimeet in akld.

i have no cert (i will get one soon, im a student so hopefully that explains my lack of cert)

i have a few questions as to what is up to warrent standards:

1. air intakes.(if the feed hangs below the bumper) is this ok if its still above 100mm.

2. interior. the three parts underneath the dash.(glovey, center console and under the steerin wheel) are these required?

3. bonnets i have had to custom make my bonnet, thus ive had to cut thru the crumple zone things on the underside, is this okay?

any help is appreciated or if anyone can tell me how to make it legal?

thanking you

1: what are they made of?

2: possibly, if the inspector thinks theres shape objects etc then fail

3: again up to the inspector. i assume you mean the support structure of the bonnet?

Read the VIRM on it. Basically only exhaust or lightly constructed bits like thin bodykits and so on

the measurement is taking from the lowest STRUCTURAL point of your car, weather it be the crossmember, or sill etc etc. the exhaust is not a structural point of the car, nor is the intake I would imagine. aslong as it is secured properly and you aren't going to have bits falling off it that shouldn't be a problem.

Hah - I can imagine the cops reaction to that statement! "Well you look like you have spent plenty of money on doing up your car... did you forget to budget for the cost of a cert"
Just get a cert! You will get wof at the same time basically. I presume that you have been talking to the guy who will cert your car while you have been building your project so it will pass first inspection?
If you have a wof but no cert and you have an accident your insurance company will not pay out for your car or the other car (if it was your fault)
I presume that your have arranged some kind of insurance!

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

sounds similar to another story i've heard...someone failed a WOF for having rust in their doors, so took the doors out completely and took it back and passed.

Technically true about the doors though the vehicle can be considered dangerous and no warrent issued. True about the windscreen squirters too. Get rid of the washer system and it can be passed (depending on age)

I was under the impression that you have to have a passenger seat in your car with a working seatbelt to pass unless the car is registered as a one seater or a race car?

I know this works for the rear seats but never heard of it working for the passenger seat before...

Not true! Any vehicle first reg'd before a certain year (1989 I think) doesn't require a window washing system to be fitted but if it is still fitted it must work. 8)

Not correct there Mr Revhead :P

If it is a vehicle that was manufactured after 1/1/92 and is fitted with a windscreen then it must have both a wiper and washer system, if it is a vehicle before that date that is fitted with a windscreen then it only requires a wiper.
