External WG, should it have a perfect seal?

On my external wastegate, there is a tiny tiny gap which is enough to see light through and I guess some exhaust gases to sneak passed. Is this normal or should it be a perfect seal?

Yep sorted that (was just the nut as you guessed) but I'm talking about the actual gate, not being a perfect seal when it is closed.

There is a retainer ring which creates the seal on the valve, when u bolt it up it presses the ring up making the seal
