standard 4age idle lumpy (why?)

Postby scope » Thu Aug 24, 2006 9:39 pm

hello

my mate just installed a 4age into an ae70, started first pop but the idle is weird. it sounds like it won't idle and you're putting your foot on accelerate to give it some gas so it lives. kind of like the bridgeport idle but really slow. it doesn't die or anything, a real mission to take off on though! what could the problem be ? i got told that it could be a vacuum problem, is this right ?

thanks

Spray CRC around the intake manifold, the engine will draw in the CRC from wherever its leaking and change tunes. You can pinpoint the leak this way.

my vote is on the cooling system, will have an airlock most likely, seen that a few times in 4ages

it wont be cooling system because it does it when its cold and when its hot.
it revs between 2000 and 3000 rpm, it revs then completely dies then revs again, also in all gears itll speed up for a while then just slow down then speed up again, in 4th it speeds up to 60 then down to 50 then back up to 60 this is with my foot off the accelerator.
the wrecker thinks its either the MAP sensor or the throttle position sensor, i think itll be the MAP sensor because it got cracked by accident when we were putting the motor in.

P.S. 4AGEs are so incredibly awesome!!!! even with no exhaust it still quick as so much fun to drive even when its loud as $&#$% and everyone thinks your a wanker that keeps revving it when stopped at lights.

I just had this exact problem in my ae82 4age. Try swapping the vacuum lines around and make sure their all hooked up.
