Someone a while ago was asking about how to do a manual conversion on their mk3 supra, I've got my box out at the moment and if anyone wants a photo of anything specefic give me a yell before i chuck it all back in.

Turned out the pushrod wasn't the wrong length rather it was the rear crank seal leaking into the bellhousing and soaking the clutch plate in oil, So i'm having to replace the crank seal AND the plate, dammit.

I would have done my conversion over last weekend, but I got sick so I couldn't. I am interested to know how you get the bellhousing bolts out though. Do you have to tip the engine and gearbox back to get at them? It looks fairly tight up towards the top. Oh and has anyone actually come across a gen2 1ggte ecu that has markings to show it is for a manual? Becuase I supposedly have both a manual one and an auto one, but I can't tell them apart. All other toyota ecu's I have seen have either A/T or M/T written on them.

Post the part numbers of the ECU on here.
I've got a Gen2 1G-GTE ECU so we can compare part numbers...

To get the top bellhousing bolts off its easier if you got a spare hand, get them to jump on top of the engine (stand on the intercooler pipeing) and get another to crawl under the car, the person under the car puts the spanner on the bolt and the person ontop of the engine reaches down the firewall and cracks the nut.

If its just you and ur lonesome you've got to put your arms around the bellhousing fit the spanner onto the nut and then pull with all of hades might. Just prey they arn't siezed or over torqued and you've been to the gym lately :P, no way you can fit a power bar or anything up there. Oh and when the nut cracks, you WILL bash your fingers into something. Yay for tight spaces.

HINT, to get the flywheel bolts off wedge a socket and power bar onto the crack pully to stop it from spinning and then just pop the bolts off. Otherwise it spins freely... pain in the ass.

any of you guys got ABS? if so what did you do with the ABS speed sensor?

some people have modified their w# series to put the sensor in. I read an article a while back on it.
when I did mine, I converted my mkIII to non-abs with all genuine bits as I dont really like it anyway.

Mounted the sensor on a replacment dust sheild with sensor ring machined to fit shaft yoke

Yes you got it lathe work required.

"some" W58s do come out with ABS sensor on top of box a few W58's have a frost plug bung were the sensor should be

Most dont that why mines fiited to replacment dust sheild.

I have had two ABS type boxs pass thru my hands.

As above with Jason T's reply. Modifying rear housing part of box (output shaft area) is what I meant.
There was something on the net, but I cannot recall where, and have not done this myself though sorry.

ah true yeah my box is from a mark2 so its got the frost plug...

thanks for the links but the one to the supra bible wont work...but neither does the homesite so maybe the sites down?

suppose i just gotta rip the old girl apart and get some machining work done 8)

Have you done your conversion already?

Coz the gearbox from a MK2 has the wrong shifter... so you'll have to hax your transmission tunnel and won't be able to fit the console surround...

I had to hack my tunnel to get it in, then i just made a new plate out of steel and stuck it onto of the cuts to get a perfect hole for the shifter to come through, all other surround fits in nicely.

Did you have to hack the front or the rear of the tunnel?

If its not a rear shifter box, and you have to cut the tunnel, then you will have problems getting into gears with your knuckles intact...

I had to hack the front (engine side) of the tunnel

(excuse the black shit, had to hack the dektite to get it off, should have bolted, not glued....) The bottom of the metal plate is about where the orginal hole starts

i havent done the conversion yet....

and ive currently got my gearbox in bits converting it to a rear shifter as i done feel like hacking a big hole in my car...
