AE111 Wiring Fault

Postby gurutasker » Mon Sep 18, 2006 11:17 am

Hey Everyone,

Haven't really had a chance to look at it yet, but I just wanted to know if anyone else with a 1995 BZ-G Levin (Or Trueno) has had this problem.

It's to do with the rear demister switch on the dash. Have replaced it twice now on my gf's car and once on my own, thinking it was the spring release snapping, but on closer inspection this time looking at the connecter at the back it looks like something has shorted and the contacts/unit has melted 8O

Definately a fire hazard, and it was working it's way through the 3rd one when we pulled it out.

If anyone knows anything about these post up, I will put a bit more up once I have pulled one of the rooted ones apart.

Burnt contacts should be black with carbon build up.

Mine does exactly the same thing, im on my 3rd one and its dead, the first one lasted a good couple of years, but since i got the first replacement one they have been frying within 3 days of putting it in, thats using it every morning

The switch just stops working (you push it and it doesnt click in and out), but i found that if you hold it down it works, i have been wedging a bit of cardboard in there when i really need it :?

Update onto this, I checked the Voltage and the current travelling over the circuit, and have also pulled apart a couple of the units.

Travelling between the 2 wires closest to eachother is around 12-15V and up to around 700ma, this doesn't sound like much to me, but it could be possible that it is jumping across the back or internally.

The main issue i found for the button to get stuck is the little wire/plastic combination used to bring the button in and out is getting melted/snapped by whatever is causing the heat inside the unit.

I've heard about this happening to another guy up in Auckland, so it may just be a factory fault?
