FXGT electric window switches

I am looking to buy a ae82 fxgt, it has problems with the window switches.

The problem is that the passenger window winds down but not up, to wind it up it needs to be wound up from the drivers master switch.

Is this a common problem?

I have been to the toyota parts department and the switches have been discontinued.

Do i have any other options other than secondhand?

Sounds like the contacts no the 'up' side of the switch have failed, could try some contact cleaner on it and see how that goes?

Is it the light silver one with the purple tints on the rear window? Auto? Just wondering...

as $CENSLS1$ states above, i'd dismantle the switch, contact clean/ clean all switch points with some fine sandpaper 1st. If no improvement, check loom.

Its a white one, no tints and its manual.

Yep could be a go'er cleaning up the contacts, although i have tried that on a 88 familia i used to have and it worked fine for a couple of days then the contacts became contaminated again.

No harm in trying tho

Also, does anyone know of possibly any other toyotas with a switch thats similar/ the same that could be adapted maybe? AE92 models?

Actually, try BJ wreckers in Napier- it was a fairwhile back (at least a year), but they had an AE 82 there- mostly intact...

comon problem. had it on my old ae82 aswell

i have a bunch of ae92 switches available if you want one. otherwise just get in there with a screwdriver and keep "damaging" it till it works

i fixed them by playing with the contacts untill they worked properly again

Did you make sure it was 100% dry before you put it back together?If not it will become contaminated again quickly,mainly because it'll catch anything that's in the air if its not dry.
