o.k Warrick and Mr King of the condescend (fivebob)

i can't ask him tonight, because it turns out i'm working late

though i would hazard a guess that anti-freeze affects any sealant used when doing a head gasket, so if its done dry, then its probably not a problem

So....

I fill up the cooling system with anti freeze solution.

I put in the required oil and screw on the filter, run it upto temp then pour in the engine flush and let it idle for the required 10 minute and drain the shitty oil out.

Put new oil in and filter on, do the same as above and see how murky the oil is by this point? If its still poos then i could pour in my other bottle of engine flush and go through the process again.

Once ive got new oil in etc i can now drive it?

Start with clean oil & filter crank for atleast 30 secounds to get oil presure then start

Once warm any sludge & crud will collect drain & refill

(cut open the oil filter and look at the bits of grit your filter just collected)

Do say 1000kms then flush change oil & filter again

Check your oil cap for signs of sludge/milk shake if you see this dont drive flush again

If in doubt have a read thru here http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/T ... fault.aspx

In my opinion no antifreeze on start up is a BS net myth created by keyboard warrior spanner spinners making excuses for bad preparation.

But I also would love to see prof of this please.

jeeze can you not read??? i didn't get that piece of infomation from the net

i got it from an engine rebuilder who also happens to be computer illiterate, so he didn't get it from the net either

and i'd say its to do with the kind of sealant they use

so like i said, if done dry, i'm sure it won't matter

Ok, I've also heard this from engine builders - BUT - I also asked Henry from ACL about it, and he said the myth was something to do with antifreeze affecting the surface tension of the water (something along those lines) and not allowing the headgasket to seal...but it is just that, a myth. If anyone should know about gasket failures and what causes them, it'd be that man.

Funnily enough, a bit of both.

Sounds like it is running on 5 cylinders or possibly even a valve not opening?

run bearing noise maybe?

over the net id just be guessing...

if you suspect a valve issue id pull the cover off and have a look.

maybe you need to get some one to come have a look

I now officially hate the 7M.

Is there any way i can check to see if a valve is sticking?

Will a run bearing sound like a hollow knock?

Does the knocking etc sound go up and down with the revs?

If it does then I'd probably go as far as saying it *could* potentially be a bent rod...

Otherwise yeh...could be bearings.
Valves easiest way really to tell is to rip the top off and take a look for yourself.

It knocks at idle (700rpm) but when i bring the revs over 1500 the knock goes away but still runs on what seems like 5 cylinders.

Anyone in auckland want to have a look :x
