Insurance on gtt's

Postby gleem » Wed Oct 04, 2006 5:42 pm

Well im keen on getting a gtt so i rang up to see how much it would cost to insure me, AA + AMI wont touch me, NAC quoted me just over $2000 and insure direct quoted me $1700 which is still way toooo expensive and that is with no mods! im almost 18 and have no insurance history.

Just wondering what the rest of you are paying and if there is any other companies out there that you would recommend and possibly be cheaper.

i pay about $900 a year full insurance, thats with $300 excess for me, $900 excess for my 22 yr old bro and $1200 for my 21yr old girlfriend. Through tower. I wouldnt even bother looking around as every insurance company will ask for internal organs or say why did you even bother calling. My non turbo s14 i got when i was 21 was costing me about $1200 a year through NAC.
So maybe it worth looking at a GT or something along those lines (no turbo).
Driving a honda is like being in the special olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded...

i wouldn't mind paying around $1000, my mate only pays $800 for his legacy gt cause his old man has all his insurance with the same company and he was listed as a main driver under his dad. Im thinking i might get my parents to do the same but they are with ami and they dont touch modifed unless your 25+

$2000 is a good deal to be insured in a performance car.

just have to get over it an bite the bullet. Fast cars arent cheap. If you think they are dont get one. Hell, if you cant afford $38 a week, how can you afford $100 a week for the petrol, $2000 a year in clutches, shocks, tyres, cv's, oil, filters, $3000 a year in depreciation, $1000 a year in fixed dents you will get from the supermarket car parks blah blah blah

If you budget on 15k car, say you want a gt-t, youll need another 10k disposible per year to keep it running. Otherwise buy a honda i guess. Even then you still wont be able to afford.

Ahhhhhh facts of life

Hahaha, $2k is cheap, considering you're right up there as an insurance risk.
Go with Insure Direct, dont drive like a cock, get fines or crash, and you'll find by the time you're 20 you'll have pretty reasonable insurance prices.
But yes, crnkin summed it up well - cars arent cheap, particularly fast ones. If you want cheap insurance and maintenance, you're gonna have to go buy something like a EE80 Corolla
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

If your near 18 are you still living at home with your parents?

May be a hard ask, but if you can get them to have the insurance under their name with you as the primary driver that might work. Or atleast bump down some of the premuims. (Always go in and talk to people face to face if possible.. over the phone doesn't really work in my experience)

Just wondering... where do you work? you must get paid pretty sweet to earn enough to buy a GTT Caldina before 18.

My GT was 1400 from NAC 2 years ago, when I was 19 and on a restricted,
Now its around 800 with full licence, garaged, alarmed.. and a $1500 excess...

Thats through NAC... I think Toyota Insurance is prettey good, its only for toyotas under 15 years old...
