Both are beautiful cars, but after driving a type r that was slightly modded, it generally didnt have the performance of the gt4, if your going for an st205, your gunna pay 2 grand more for a nice one, compared to a good condition type r (And how many of those are there around?) Id take the 205 any day, but as everyone has said, its completely what you want

Haha! Mixed opions here then.

I'm leaning towards a ITR. Perhaps I should mention that I'm really not in it for straight line speed. The "NUMBER 1" priority for anycar I have would be FUN! And the Trueno just doesn't cut it in that department.

I have a feeling that the teg, with big recaro bucket seats, no sound deadening, hugely fun high revving engine (i love vtec) will be more suited to my style of driving. It is also good on fuel economy. The downside is FWD, but they are supposed to be the best handling FWD cars made and I don't plan on throwing it around in the wet, or go rallying - lol.

However, I will still take both for a run as I may be pleasently surprised.

u will be supprise on the performance of a GT4 when it comes to corners. :D

You realise asking the difference between a Honda and a Toyota on a Toyota forum won't exactly give you the most unbias answer in the world?

They are quite different cars and made for very different markets. One is made for rallying, one is a hyped up road racer. Sure the Celica is heavier (but no heavier than a new EVO), but it will be a hell of a lot more solid in the body and in construction. This has the advantage that on the open road it ticks like glue, being very stable at speed. The downside is that is is heavier when taking off from the lights.

The GT-Four is not a city car and it does not pretend to be. It is made to do a long drive on the open road in terrible weather at high speeds effortlessly.

The ITR is fast but you have to be willing to scream its nuts off to do so. Do you want to have to do that all the way from AKL - WLG? Think you will still be able to walk when you get there?!

Want an easy to drive shopping cart to parade at stop lights? Get the ITR. Want a car capable of very high speeds with a bit more exclusivity? GT-Four.

300 bhp (and the torque to go with it, something an ITR will never have) is an exhaust change away on the ST205. Don't believe people that knock the GT-Fours handling, good shocks and springs are all it needs, the superstrut front being very precise (don't believe me compare it to a ST165!). I trust you have seen the size of the brakes and I don't need to mention them!

Want a car to drive in AKL traffic every day? ITR may be better suited, uprated clutches in a GT-Four can be heavy.

And yes I have a ST205, have had GT-Fours for over a decade, so I'm biased to!

totally agree, lol i have a st205 too

i think the ITR will give u the speedy feel more boy racer sort, while the GT4 is more mature.

Yeah, I'd love one of them as well. Think they are one of the sexiest cars on the road. Especially the facelift models. Quite rare though :(

I've owned both

I'd go type r again.

st205 is so much car for the money now days, but it takes a lot of dollars to get it feeling right.

type r only needs a set of better pads.

With the exception of one or two, everyone who has said st205 have probably never owned one, and are overly toyota biased.

For me, for a st205 to be a better experience than a type r, it needs a td06 or similar, good clutch and lightened flywheel, suspension, obviously a new ecu etc etc By time you've done that you could've got a s15.

Why not get a s14? Same money, basically a s15 except it is 5 speed, which is stronger anyway, and it doesn't look as nice. Won't cost you an arm and a leg to modify and maintain like a st205 will.

I don't think there is one thing a mazda gtr can claim to have better than a st205.

Not one.

Maybe cheaper panels, thats the only thing I could come up with in 2 minutes.

LOL
