4age, 4agze turbo thread (General Discussion)

Postby Crucible » Wed Oct 25, 2006 10:14 pm

Thought it might be a good idea to start a 4agte General discussion thread as there seems to be neverending questions etc on the topic. This will keep the Spam away from the Builds, specs and update thread.

For all new builds, updates and specs please go to this thread

viewtopic.php?t=51147&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

but for general talk on anything 4agte please post here.

Hey True-No_Turbo, I thought I read that your turbo had given up? Whats the story?

Just wondering cause Im thinking of maybe using one of those unbranded t3/4 since my gt28 looks to be $&#$%.... but still waiting for confirmation.

Well it was weird, I was giving it a bit on the motorway and when I parked up it was smoking quite a bit, my comp wheel has a little nick out of it so I though it may of put it out of balance, but funny enough though next morning it was fine, no smoke at all???

Talked to Bazda and he suggested to make my oil return as high as I can which I will look at doing this weekend. Im going to mod the ex cam rocker cover also to run another breather - ccan. Hopefully this will help lower crankcase pressure a bit under load, as when it happened I had it flatfoot in 4th off the clock

will see how it goes from there, bummer about your turbo man.

kind of , boost still fluctuates rapidly but only from low rpm in 4th and above 17psi. it actually improved when i increased the idol seat pressure on the BOV.

I do have an un4agte related irritation ,a sticky starter motor that wont disengage momentarily after start , of which ive already replaced the starter motor/solenoid&ignition switch.
it actually was fine for a while with the new starer motor, and is slowly just starting to stick again. i need to have a lil think about it, coz i dont believe in coincidences. :?
its a right bastard as i need to remove the inlet manifiold to get to it,and clear room in the engine bay so i can stand between the gearbox and radiator.

chuck a test light on the solenoid trigger wire (if you can get in there lol), get someone to crank it and see if you loose power the instant they take their hand off the key, if it still remains on for a short time maybe you have a sticky relay.

Matt (xsvwgn) is looking at doing a sc14 conversion also. Ive always wondered what it would be like with an sc14, must have heaps of boost off idle, would be nuts!

Nobody seems to finish the conversion or they all seem to have problems. I may look at doing it to my Levin a bit down the track but first things first.

ran into a guy one night who claimed he spent up to 3500 paying someone to do an sc14 conversion and still didnt have it going properly. :?

after playing with my car cranking it a few times last night,i have an idea my sticky starter motor may be related to the fuel pump.when i turn it to on it runs the pump for approx 5sec , if i crank it before the pump is finished running the starter sticks and doesnt disengage , if i let the pump stop before i crank it doesnt seem to do it.
all seems slightly weird tho , and is but a minor irritation at the moment.

hey guys, excuse me if this has been asked but i cant seem to find it  and i hope its alrite to ask in this thread, did not wan to start a new one. Im planning a 4agte build with a blacktop on standard internals with about 5-8psi (may upgrade in the future with forged internals etc)

1) Is it safe with 11:1 compression? I know its been done here on silvertops with 10.5

2) If i was to use a GZE bottomend with the 20v head, can I still use my gbox from the 4age? C160

3) What ecu should I use? GZE be ok or go for a link?

4) tdo5h (evo) or t3/t4 (T04E) ?

5) If I was to use my bottom end, is the BT rods sufficient? or should i change to ST rods?

Ok, I hope I didnt offend anyone if these were asked before cuz i have read too many threads and cant find any answers.

Thanks

im know nothing but..

1) not really, would give great response, but you wouldnt be able to run bugger all boost and it would have a limited life. seen it done a couple of times, a few aussies seem to have tried it, they seem to swear by it , then you see an update 6 months later and its blown up and they swear they should have done it right first time. you'd probly get a good run out of one if it was tuned properly etc, but youd just end up being frustrated that once you get to a point you cant make anymore power without opening the engine up so you can run more boost.

2) not sure, somebody else would need to confirm. c series have really short ratios compared to e series boxes tho, and the e series are pretty damn hard to break. ive contemplated sometimes if it is possible, whether it would be worth the change , tho i cant imagine it surviving very long.

3) aftermarket ecu gives heaps of flexibility when changing your setup around, which you always end up doing. dont think gze ecu will do vvt tho?

4) evo3 tdo5H has always shown good results . t3/t4 is good for flexibility if you wish to try different trims later on tho.

5) blacktop rods are notoriously fragile, usually at high revs.they are skinny as compared to silvertop and early gze rods. pretty sure silvertop rods are the same as 101 gze rods, i have silvertop rods and have run 15psi for 18months, with up to 22psi at times , and an 8500rpm rev limit.drag racing and a few sessions at manfield and engine still runs :?

Matt is buying my setup which i have running fine in my car. Its not to its full potential because i dont have good enough fueling to run more than about 15psi. It goes like a cut cat and wheelspins on 17s in 3rd gear. Matts gonna run it on a link so that should be interesting.

Hey guys,

Time for 4agte build number 3 8)

Just sold my blacktop 20v to make way for this.

rebuilt 20v silvertop with 4agze pistons (8.9:1)
blacktop throttle bodies
t3/t4 turbo (big one... not compleltly sure on specs, Im trusting Bazda)
injectors (havn't got these yet... need some 3sgte ones)
custom manifold and intake plenum
38mm wastegate (probably just a ripoff, i sold my tial :( )
50mm BOV (modified rip off one)

New G3 link LEM and LC1 wide band oxygen sensor setup.

Aiming for 200kw at the wheels, at about 20psi.

oh yeah, and its going into a AW11

cool. if the t3/t3 is any decent size you shouldnt need 20psi.

i used some 440cc 3sgte injectors which were actually about 510cc, and have heaps left in them on my setup. you'll need a fuel pump to go with it , a basic wahlbro 500hp jobbie should do it.

i might upgrade my link at some stage in the future ,my current link is very old and basic. let me know how the ecu goes.
