Help Ive broken something!!!

Postby Roydon » Fri Nov 10, 2006 9:47 am

Ok yesterday afternoon after a bit of spirited driving i broke something!! Now this is my 1st 4agze and since i didnt built the motor i not really to sure what ive done. Im pretty sure ive only rooted the SC12??.
This is what happened leading up to the turn of events. I was coming thru a series of S bends and was sitting pretty high in 3rd, Just got into the straight away, hesitated for maybe a couple milliseconds changing up and then a evil shreeching sound came out from in front of me. I put the car in neutral, gave a few blips on the gas and the screeching noise was still there. I pulled over and left the car running, the car then procedded to to rev its nuts of by itself then itd back off then rev again and back off and so on so on. I checked the accelerator cable wasnt jammed and then turned the car off. I proceeded to check all the belts and they looked fine the belt coming from the SC12 is still there so i didnt break it, Im thinking maybe ive killed the clutch?? the car runs but it isnt driveable as it proceeds to rev by itself. Also it isnt leaking any oil if that helps

Any help in diagnosing my problem would be great, and also any other possible faults!!

Cheers Roydon

its pretty much going from idle to redline repeatedly (dont have a tacho on it at the mo). Howe would the grease or oil got on to it?? would that also cause the screeching sound when i touch the gas?

Could have been the sc belt slipping...or any belt. Dunno about the reving though, could be an air leak?

At a track day in Timaru last year there was a ae8* with a 4agze conversion, It got trailored back cos it was constantly revving high, iirc it was due to the intake pipe coming apart after the throttle body, with no throttle controlling air flow it was just bouncing off the limiter.
My brothers levin also has a miniscule leak in the intake, causing it to whistle/squeal/squeak at high revs.

Maybe you got a problem in between these two issues?

Hey, at least it sounds like a 3s.

check your intercooler hoses,
it will rev uncontrolably if youve split or blown one off.
check over all the hoses, anything on the engine side of throttle body, theres also a hose underneath the supercharger, pita to get to.

as for the screech its probably the supercharger, you can unplug it and run on the bypass, but its gutless, run it like this and it will tell u if its the blower or not by weather it still screeches

I replaced the intercooler joiners on my gze a few days after buying it, they were totally rooted, big cracks and stuff. If the joiners have a bulge in the middle of them they are the factory ones, just grab some decent silicone intake hose 2" stuff.

But yea id try turning off the S/C completely first as evil_si said, could be dead, is a couple going on Trademe atm tho if your unlucky and it is dead.

first thing to do if its reving uncontrollably is check the intake system, there will be a leak there somewere, find that and fix first then look at the s/c it could be a boost leak thats making the noise.

Is the supercharger speed controlled by an auxiliary throttle cable, if so check that, had that same sound on my Altezza once.

Just a thought.

nope, they have an electro magnetic clutch system.
controlled by the ecu, dependant on rpm and throttle percentage
