20v silvertop misfire

Postby ~SlideWays~ » Thu Nov 16, 2006 11:55 am

On very light throttle the car will always jerk when you take your foot off and also sometime when accelerating on 1/5 throttle (like bunny hoping). There is no problem with full throttle or even half throttle. No misfire on hard acceleration.

I've tried:
- 2 different sets of plug leads/coil lead which I know are good.
- New set of plugs
- Tried coil and ignitor from Blacktop which runs fine

Haven't tried fuel filter or TPS.

Has anyone else had this problem?

yes.

run it on 98 octane, or retard timing 2 degrees, clean oil residue from intake
run catch can, check TPS

then blame nz fuel when you cant fix it.

im guessing it only happens when cold and goes away when warmed up?

I put 98 in it right before driving it home from palmy  (no difference)

Then found that the thermostat was stuffed and was running dead cold at 100km, have put a new one in now and still no difference. (haven't checked economy though... hopefully improved)

Will have to check timing and TPS and go from there...stoopid toyota's are so crap

mine did a similar thing & it was the o2 sensor being faulty, being a poor student & not liking the price for a new one i just got mine cleaned & reset. It was fine for a few years, but its just started doing it again.
Its quite offputting really.
I thought mine was the tps too, so did the toyota mechanics here (dunedin), but it wouldnt throw up the fault code so thats when we looked for other things
Ending up with spare parts in assembling things since 1983

My old one did something similar to that, checked everything then had the intake off one day and noticed that the afm seemed to be slightly open, turned out there was a bit of something in there causing it to be a bit stiff, cleaned it out with some petrol and the flap came free, ran heaps better after that no miss better fuel economy and more power :)
