Hey vvega, you said you were knowledgable in aluminium structure, any idea's on what may have caused this? I really want to know for future reference so it doesn't happen again, as you could understand.
ther are lots of reason that this sort of thing can happen stx7 has named one of them
chrystaline fracture is another (any major impact will cause the casting to change in structure and become very brittle.you get this when tring to straighen alloy wheels after they have been bent )
it can also be cause by a defect in the casting process..i.e incorect cooling methods or the alloy not been properly purdged before the pour
any nick or marking in the face is basically a weekpoint and givin time a fracture will always start from this point
