HKS cams

Postby TOYROTA » Fri Dec 01, 2006 4:14 pm

well it turns out the hks gear i ordered bout 3 weeks ago hasnt even left japan yet and that makes me a lil bit irritated. so i rang kelford cams and asked them bout the 4age 16v cams they can do.
has anyone had any dealings with kelford as they seem really professional and knowledgable, they also said that HKS donot measure their cams properly.
any feedback on this?

for some strange reason, id trust HKS over Kelford.....

Maybe fact that they have built many many many powerful and reliable cars... where as ive heard stack loads of dodgy kelford storys.

kelford are good at what they do, guys in the states are starting to use there products. A evo 5 i put togeather that had 264deg HKS cams, the cams started to show signs of wear in about 15k, and they were set up and torqued down to HKS specs, not so hot

I got some cams from kelfords recently, they were a bit hard to get to respond to email at first but once I had paid for the cams the service was great.

The cams look to be excellent quality too (look like they could have come from toyota) haven't tried them yet though.

The Kelford weld built up cams in my race 4age are approaching 10 years old and dont have a single mark on them. For the massive lift and duration of these cams, and the abusive RPM the engine sees constantly I think the reliability isnt in question. I have heard some horror stories about HKS, much as you pretty much will hear about any brand.

In regards to performance, dont ignore a brand just because it isnt fashonable. My race 4age performs stunningly for what it is. I think Kelford have done a fantastic job building up a huge cam that produces power exactly where I required it.

In regards to measurement, I think they mean a ramp to ramp measurement is only an indicator of what a cam will do. Its really false advertising. Measurement at 10 or 50 thou is what you want to be looking at. It gives a much better indication of how the cam will perform. They could also mean that they really are off in regards to lobe measurement. Some time ago Kelford were well known for having poor measurement themselves "Kelford mystery sticks" however they appear to have it nailed now. Unlike Franklin who are miles out!
