Spacing out wheels

Postby fuzzilogyc » Fri Dec 01, 2006 12:10 am

I recently got some new wheels for my 91 fxgt, and the tyres rub ever so slightly on the back struts. What would be the best way to fix this?
I can chuck a 4 or 5mm washer in between the wheel and the hub on each of the threads and that will fix the problem, but is this dodgey?
Alternatively, i could get a spacer made up (but then i only need to space the wheels out about 5mm).
I don't want to do anything yet in case something goes wrong.
Would it be easier to just get a new set of wheels with (more? or less?) negative offset?

Technically yup, slip on spacers are. I dont think 5mm ones would be that much of a worry though, its when you get munters chucking on 20mm slip on ones without changing studs that you get issues.

I have 4mm chinese ones they're OK
If you weld them on to your wheel or hub then it's legal.
Your nuts must be able to wound 7 turns into the stud to be legal too.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

he makes bolt on ones

the slip on ones are good for a few mm like the guy ones, but i wouldnt go much bigger than 5mm, (again depends on the length of your bolt) and how much thread there is

youve probably got the wrong offset rims and/or tires that are too wide for the rim/offset

slip-on spacers are illegal yes

dont use wshers you will snap studs. Just use a 3-4mm slip on spacer but paint it back so warrent people wont pick it up.

There illegal, full stop.

You have to get them certed

Mine got left off my cert plate by accident and I failed a warrent. Got them on there now.

Suppose it depends if the person doing the warrent actually sees them... I've got open 5 spoke wheels so there easy to see.
