gaskets and sealant, sumps

Postby bluemaumau » Sun Dec 24, 2006 5:49 pm

ok today i removed my sump, baffle plate and pickup.

there were gasket/seals attached to most things and goo around the outer lips of everything.

can anyone give me the technical names of all the gaskets/seals, so i can order them easily?

also what type of goo/sealant is used, so i can pick soemm up.

I'm not sure what sealant they use from factory but when I put my Cressida engine back together I used RTV and that seems to have lasted.

I recall seeing someone say in the thread you can get toyota black sealant. I'm sure a layer of that would sort most seals. Tis factory used on some parts anyway including some sumps etc

The sump sealant is quite important as they have no actual sump gasket.

nope only the sealant goo...makes it easy, can you imagine trying to align a gasket to clear all the sump bolt holes!

Ive seen gaskets on many car sumps (lining up the holes aint too hard, but helps to have engine upside down lol), but never on any toyotas Ive worked on. No reason you couldnt use one, but as above, just the sealant works fine.
I have normal rtv gasket silicone on mine. No issues for the year the engines been together.
Cant believe im still a member here.

The gasket set i got for my 4agte came with a cork sump gasket.
