Postby bluemaumau » Fri Jan 05, 2007 5:57 pm

ok ive been searching for around half an hour, and im probley not puttin in the right keywords.

1.how the frig do i get my cam covers off, the engines completely stripped back (p/s, inlet, exhaust etc) except for the CAS.

ive undone the black part in the middle and the 4 nuts on each cover, still wont budge, is there a trick?

2. cams, how do you remove the cam wheel/gear from the shaft? the timing belt is off.

cheers, im probley missing something real obvious, but meh im on holiday 8)

What sorta engine?

Normally to remove the covers you just remove the outside bolts around it and maybe a couple that might be down the middle between the cams. Once you remove those along with any hoses etc that attaches to the cover it should just pop off.

The cam wheel should have a bolt in the middle which you need to crack first before you can undo it. Good luck doing that with the belt removed however. :P

Put the belt back on and then put a big power bar on the crank to stop it from moving, then use another power bar to crack the bolt on the wheel. Otherwise a rattle gun should do the trick.

Pry it off with something sharp (aka flat blade screwdriver lol). Probably just the sealant holding it on.

As for the cam wheels, you could take the cams out and put them in a vice, and then take the wheels off.

As above...
The middle bolts, then the four bolts on each cover. Try to give it a whack sideways with a bit of timber and then lift it off...

Cam wheels

There is a hex in the cam which a 1" wrench will fit over. stick your wrench on it and at the same time as holding that undo the cam wheel bolt

your ALL wrong :D

theres little oil seals under each rocker cover nut. make sure theyre all pryed off, sometimes need a minature screwdriver to get in there, otherwise the covers will not budge no matter how hard you bash them.

Try a single hex long socket...and then you can really put some force into it with out fear of rounding the bolt

Spanner!!! Ouch man.
Get a power bar and a good socket and put some torque into it.

Thats the way, remove the seals first.

I hope you haven't distorted the covers by bashing them.

the worst thing is that in repco the only deep socket 10mm is in 3/8 drive so you have to buy a 1/2 -> 3/8 adapter
