slave is not doing much!!

Postby frost » Sat Jan 06, 2007 10:03 pm

i've just run into a problem id never seen before. we just got new clutch master cly and the slave cly for a ae86 that didnt have any. the two parts shops i went to say its 100% the oem replacement parts. BNT and butlers auto mart, both really good shops. they gave me a
15.87 = 5/8" bore master (74967365)
and 20.64 = 7/8" bore slave
(^ does that sound like the master is too small for the slave to you!!!)
the problem is the slave does not move far enuf to release the clutch.

questions.
1, do those bore sizes sound right? for stock ae86

2, if they are right what could be causing this? we bleed it several times to make sure there wasn't air bubbles.

3, we tried fitting a 3/4'' slave and it worked very well. but the slave is the wrong shape, is there any other 3/4" slave thats the same shape as ae86?

Im running nite parts 4a>w5* bell housing. same fork and carrier as came with box and pivot nob thing.
ae85 pedal box converted to hydro.

please any help will be greatly appreciated. i need to move the car out of my mates garden very soon.

its not unheard of (in fact fairly common) that BNT have incorrect listings

yea we where thinking that too. we checked with bnt, butlers, repco, stanmore rd auto, and they all came out with the same box. they also said its quite a widely used slave cylinder. looks like im looking for a 3/4" slave. if its not solved soon.

mr. revhead whats a price on master and slave from toyota for ae86 theres days?

bet me to it!

does the conversion bellhousing use standard AE86 slave? part suppliers can't be blamed if you are asking for the wrong parts?

"BTW master cylinder is SMALLER than slave cylinder in diameter"

yea thats what i was thinking.

"does the conversion bell housing use standard AE86 slave?"

from other conversions I've seen they also use this arrangement. and its the best fitting slave to line up with the fork. and is the right shape so the lines don't rub on the steering box.

"part suppliers can't be blamed if you are asking for the wrong parts?"

no i wasn't blaming the parts guys, they are really helpful guys. i was just giving the whole story so you'd get a better understanding of the situation. my apologizes to any one who works at the places i mentioned if it sounded like i was blaming yous.

I've also herd the w5* gear box's have different length forks. can anyone say this is fact? if so i think I've got the longer style one. witch means the slave to fork pivot ratio is too short. as in the slave has to move more but only a little movement on the bearing side.. instead of equal movement on both sides of the fork. I'll try and find another fork to see.

thanks everyone for your replys.
