rubber ends of lower arm. are they important?

Postby flygt4 » Fri Jan 05, 2007 1:57 pm

so i had a little mishap while extracting a cross threaded bolt in the most technical of ways, and was forced to drop out my front subframe and replace it. probly coulda had it welded up but didnt wanna risk it.

my question is are the rubber ends where the lower arm pivots in the subframe important? would you notice in any way if there were buggered?

after removing them ive noticed they are quite knackered, and since its all apart , i figure ill replace any and all parts that need it now rather than later. i never noticed anything i could blame on them before, so im tempted just to sling em back in and see.
heres a few pics to give you an idea.

damage to subframe :?

You'd fail a warrent if they were stuffed. Price up some through Repco and see what they're like, if they're cheap then chuck some Nolathane ones in and then you shouldn't have to worry about it for a while

EDIT - Assuming they're replaceable and not a complete arm

apparently they are part of the lower arm, so im not so keen to to go to that extreme of replacing both arms :? i might see if i can fill it with urethane or something to firm it up tho.

Remove the arm from the subframe and just blow the bushes out with a gas axe, the heat turns them to soft goo, then you can tap them out with a chisel. Keep the heat away from the arm itself though.
If the new bushes are one piece, you just need a bit of lube and tap them in with a socket, if they are 3 piece you can just push them in with your fingers.

Id just weld that subframe with a mig, It will be fine.

was gonna weld it up  but it only cost me time to put the new one in so it wasnt a major. i woulda had to get to a welder to fix the old one up.
