Indicators wont work on caldina gtt

Hi there, recently my idicators have stoped working and when i replace the fuse they work for about 2 clicks then blow, i noticed it a little while after we installed the wiring for a sub and amp if that helps.

I have been to an auto electrition and they quoted me far too much imo for what shouldnt be too much of a job for someone who knows a bit in this field.
I don't know much when it comes to car electronics but if anyone who knows there stuff about car electronics in toyotas in the auckland area and could prehaps help me fix it i would be willing to pay a bit of cash

that wireing digram is engin not chassie so no not what you want

what happens if you unplug the head unit @ the plug at the back also do you have a muilty meter as i can give you a couple of tests to try if you do

yes i can get my hands on a multimeter what should i test

take out all the bulbs then test voltage accross

battrie votlage


now turn the key to on

then test


earth pin on one plug - earth on battrie
postive- postive on battrie

now turn left on & test

earth pin on one plug - earth on battrie
postive- postive on battrie
(on a left side plug)

now turn right on & test

earth pin on one plug - earth on battrie
postive- postive on battrie
(on a right side plug)

& let us know all the results

this is pridy much the tests that you will be paying for when you take it in

this should show up shorts & bad conections


we will see what happens there first then we will know were to start

I am an auto elec,

and even I cant follow WTF you mean in those tests.

Trying to find a short with a multi meter is like trying to find a needle in a haystack with with a telescope.


When you put the fuse in does it blow if you dont turn on the indicators?
No?
Does it blow whaen you turn on the left or the right?
Does it still blow with no bulbs in?
Does it have a trailer plug?

We usually put a short light across the fuse holder so you dont go thru 50 fuses trying to find the fault.

thoes tests are what we have always done & prove to work quite well this isent trying to find the short this is trying to find witch wire it is in to start with

it blows with the hazzards left and right, yes it has a trailer plug but that hasnt been touched since ive owned it it doesnt blow when we dont turn the indicators on iirc

I'd check the wiring for the Hazard switch (Assuming you had the dash apart to run RCA's for the amp)

I presume I read that as,
it blows with the hazzards or the left or the right indicator.

If so it is very unusual that it blows on both sides as usually only one side shorts out.

As above, check the hazzard sw is plugged in to the correct place and the wires there are not jammed onto something.

Different people do things different ways.
Wasn't picking on your way of doing it just seems weird to me,
probably like the way I would do some things may seem weird to you.

Well im not an auto sparky but using a factory earth wire on an aftermarket headunit always sent the electrics up the duff, still dont know why On my current car when I tried it, it blew the fuse to all the rear tail lights

Ive always gone straight from the head unit to the body to earth.

Thats because you used the Green earth wire that is NOT EARTH !!

common mistake. the green is the tail light feed.

Brown is earth on Toyota.

Haha, everyone blames "factory earths" which are never actually an earth
Extremely common issue with people putting headunits in Nissans

I learnt that the hard way in my first car, an old 1985 mitsi . Dome fuse blew when i turned the lights on. I thought it was just the pioneer h/u taking too much power

Nah was the brown wire, was common with the chassis when tested with a multimeter, so wired it up a boom, blows a fuse when the HD goes on...

Still caused problems, if someone could explain i'd give them a hug

You wired it up to the illumination wire, which dims the HU lights when headlights are on. When the lights are off, its an earth, but when you turn the lights on it's a power source.

take your surround off and undo the plugs, and put them in again noting how many wires are in each plug. I had the guys at 4 Guys Auto Barn take out the head unit in my Glanza when I bought it cause I had my own stereo, and they put the plugs back to front, had the exact same problem.
