NATS help: how to make a silvertop trueno fast in a day?????

Some friends of mine in the Primera car club have got themselves in a competition at the Rotor Nats run by the organisors which involves them competing against team onboost.

each team has been given a car, and they have to make it as fast/stylish as possible so that it can go to the drags tomorrow against the other team. Team onboost has been given an early 80's honda accord and NZPCC has been given an ae101 silvertop trueno.

The NZPCC team have started with weight reduction and have pulled everything unnecesary out, but they are now looking for more....

What they are wondering, is does anyone have any parts they could borrow, such as turbo/manifold combinations, that could be bolted on for the day and then given back?

Also any advice from knowledgable toyspeeders about how to get the best out of a really old tired silvertop 4age would be awesome... (either drop into the nzpcc stand at the show or post here)

lol onboost have been ripped :lol:

see if acesniper will lease you his SARD ecu for a day :wink:

other than that, theres stuff all else you can do other make sure things are as they should be.

what about that thread from aaagggeees ago where some americans took a car to the strip and stripped it out and chopped bits off to make it lighter.
do that :lol:

HA HA HA HA team onboost got an early 80's honda accord there is like a 10 year difference between the two cars. Gutted for team onboost.

yeah I think there was a coin toss and nzpcc won the toss and chose the trueno... :lol:

I should have said before it has to pass scrutineering at the drags so can't be too cut up.

PM me if you wanna run the sard ecu, ill be there but not sure what time :/
Run as free flowing exhust as possable they love it
try and borrow some blacktop extractors
pull the plenum off and clean the itb's an ditch pcv
auto trans fluid the gbox


prolly not much else you can do unless you got access to more stuff b4 the day...

yea will help abit with traction :D


could possably borrow my ARC box to if I can be assed removing it, engines not going to like the heat of the day so coldest air you can get into it the better

yeah ditch that pcv.... and if u get the SARD ecu get the best fuel u can at least 98 and set it at stock timing (10deg, dont forget to bridge terminals) maybe put 12 on it if u can get some better fuel.

maybe even bodge up a straight pipe from the down pipe on

ditch the belt that runs ac/ps
make sure the 2nd belt isnt to tight.. just enough to grip

if ur stuck for oil valvoline VR1 seams to be a light oil that works well in them

if you have access to a adjustable fpr throw it on and make sure you get a vacume from all 4... stock one runs off one tb

just unbolt exhaust just before cat. conv.
Weight reduction is biggest thing, scoop up the sound deadnig material, get rid of carpet, get rid of speakers, get rid of aircon gear/brackets, get rid of power steering (not really needed in a drag car), get rid of heater/aircon crap that sits under dash (with heater just loop the heater pipes). get rid of passanger seats and rear sits if have not done so. Unbolt unnecisery brackets
stereo braket, tow hooks, if extreme get rid of blower fan, window wipers, window wiper motor, rear spoiler, rear window wiper/motor, a/c ducts, roof linings, rear speaker carton, spare wheel carton and carpets, whole rear interior (just leave dash and front doors cartons - you need that for safety). On the crossmember there is a dead weight sitting on the rubber (just next to rear engine mount) - get rid of it it is quiet heavy.

OK so far some extreme weight reduction has gone on, the whole interior is gone, they are welding in a lightweight race seat and have kept the door cards in case they need them at scruitineering...

They've cut the exhaust at the bottom of the headers and are building a straight pipe exiting on the passenger side of the car.

what and where is the pcv?

The hose that runs from the cam cover to the inlet, vent the cam cover into a bottle and block off the inlet side so there is no vacume leak.
The gray pcv valve thats down near your oil cap in the cam cover, remove the short black hose run a hose from the gray valve into the bottle, block off the side thats on the itb side.

Its important you clean the throttle bodys tho get all the gunk out, some would disagree but the plastic trumpits in the plenum cut them along the seams so you have abit of funnel into the TB but the high flow for top end

you can chop up the doors , all the inside reenforcement and just have the bare panel, dont even have locks or anything. technically you need a roll cage with side intrusion for this but they shouldnt mind.

Also cut up the ribs under the bonnet, cut a hole and stick the afm in open, maybe run no filter if your keen.

Also take out rear side glass and replace with lightweight sheet, maybe you could do the rear windscreen too, you would have to look up the technicality on if its road legal or not
