HID lights

Does anyone know if the HID kits vary from country to country?

Would an HID kit designed for a car that drives on the left hand side of the road vary to an HID kit that is designed for a car that drives on the right hand side of the road?

I am asking as the HID systems on ebay are cheaper than the ones on trademe and have the colour temperature that i am after.

as normal lights they will have different pattern and will cause issues with WOF (well, they will cause issues anyway).

How does the pattern differ? wof guy only cares that the lights work, not about pattern.

Well then hes not doing a very good job at a wof. They should check the pattern, i failed on the sprinter on that before.

I don't care, he doesn't care. Happy times!

So, anyone know if there is a noticable difference or not? They aren't going to shine into oncoming traffic etc? Keep in mind Z30 soarers have projector low beams.

the headlights on a LHD car will indeed have a different light spread than those on a RHD car.

Do you know how they are different?
Will it be a MAJOR lighting issue or just something minimal that you will only notice via a light machine.

left hook cars (and motorbikes) have to change the lights over when imported ... maybe b-rowdy can fill you in on the regs, as that's in her line of business. Usually best to hear from the experts where possible.

Have u ever looked at the intl rally cars??? (while in NZ and Auzzie etc that drive on the left side of the road)
The LHD cars (manily the corollas when they used to rally) have a very tiny bit of black tape on the head lights...thats cause the LHD lights shine to the right side of the car, where as RHD cars the lights shine to the left side, so as not to blind oncoming traffic etc.

if u sit on a dark road at night with your lights on u will see that the left side of the road is brighter from your light beam as apposed to the right side

I don't know if thats completely true leon, my father works for st johns. All the chevs are left hook. Best they can do is adjust them as far left as possible. Still get drivers flashing lights at them, and being what they are they have to go to VTNZ for a COF and have no problems passing.

Like I say, check with b-rowdy for the official words on the subject.

I'm just going from conversations with people that have had to buy new lights to convert LHD cars, and jumped to the conclusion that they weren't spending all that money just for fun.

hold on, aren't there HID kits that don't actually have the headlight lens or reflector, and are just the bulbs and ballast, no actual headlight housing?

if you get one of those, you wont have a problem with the light shining on the wrong side of the road....

I think they're illegal anyway?

Yea i just realised that changing the bulbs ONLY can't shine it to the other side of the road. Wof man is friendly and to be honest probably doesn't even know what an hid system is.

just out of question what is the advantages/disadvantages of it
The faster you go the quicker you get there

High Intensity Discharge lamps give out more light for less current draw, they run cooler and you can get them in most shades of white/blue/purple/gold.
