C52 with TRD Plate LSD & Dextron AFT fluid?

Postby Maxwedge » Fri Feb 23, 2007 12:45 pm

I was asking around about oils for Plate LSDs and a bloke from a Penrose gearbox shop recomended Auto Trans Fluid (dextron 3 type).
Sounds feasible as Auto tranmissions have wet clutches and gears?
Its not the first time I have heard of this, any ideas as I was curious?

i would go with what the LSD manufacturer reccomends, which is for TRD 75w90. Obviously they're going to reccomend their own oil, but Castrol Syntrax is made in that weight and works well.

Is what i use in mine, with the same type of LSD

Torsen does not need LSD friction additives.

i use redline 75w90 oil in my c52 with a trd plate diff. it is the best oil i've used. it stopped the grabbing that was happening with the previous oils

"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

I was also recommended Castrol Syntrax for my TRD LSD (probably by the same guy). Seems to work fine.
If the LSD feels too 'grabby' you may want to add a friction modifier oil, redline make one IIRC.

if its grabby its good, means the diff is going to try lock earlier :D
im just running castrol multitrax, i need to use a oil that will also lubricate the gear REALLY good or they will wear out oo fast and i'll end up stripping another one.

I would never run mulitrax again in a c52 with a trd lsd, I did for about two weeks and it make the diff run like a locker. I put the recomened trd oil in it and now its smooth as anything, no worries going round tight corners or on full lock

i've been running on it for longer than that and i dont mind it. With my power and the tyres I use I need something that locks very quickly and hard. The ae101 viscous lsd couldnt hold my power it woudl jsut spin 1 wheel, with my 4agte it was perfect.

prob for normal people the reccomended stuff is good, but for me id prob rip up the gears with that stuff as i did with my other box.

How do you drive round normally then? My car was almost undrivable with the mulitrax. It was a mission to do a u turn or go round a tight round a bout

I have just filled my c56 with TRD plate type, with syntrax and it seems good as! (ensure your syncros are all new!)...

This cost = $95, other options
Motul FF LSD = $190 (ex Auckland)
TRD LSD = $100 (ex Japan)
