Trick turbo setup

I spotted this earlier... Its from a tuning company in the states called Currency Motor Cars, they have managed to get 810hp from the high com V10... the car may go on sale for around $350,000 us and has been dubbed the worlds most powerful 4 door sedan... pwoah!!!

Anywhoos, does anybody have any idea how this would work... does it suck the exhaust gasses out of the engine or something :?

its just a turbo mounted on the end of the exhaust instead of at the end of the headers.

Err - do you know how turbos work??

Just in case you don't, they are exhaust driven - exhaust pulses push one wheel in the turbo, which is connect to the other one through a shaft which sucks air in and forces it into the engine.... hence the fact one side of the turbos are attached to the exhaust, and the other is attached to the intake. Its just a bit odd having them attached to the end of the exhaust system instead of to the exhaust manifold.

Nothing to be confused at, they just moved the turbo all the way back with extended pipes.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

would it not add lag to the setup by moving things all the way back there ? :?

you'll probably find they don't use an intercooler since the piping is so long, which eliminates some of the lag, probably brings it down to a similar level as a car with a big intercooler at the front. i saw something like this once before, STS or something, and american company that does turbo kits for corvettes and redneck trucks

I think thats the answer right there.

And what about the lengths of the intercooler pipes, oil and water lines, surely that cant be good

Not to mention the fact there is no mufflers after the turbos 8O Might have trouble adherring to 95dB :lol:

Wouldn't the turbo's act like muflers though?... I would imagine it would be quite quiet

i have seen a number of early mustangs and the like turbo'd like that in the US, due to the fact that the turbo's get EVEN pressure there is very little pulsing it means that spool up is actually pretty quick.

dont be fooled into the 'closer to the exhuast port = best set up' way of thinking.

plus its a high comp v10, how much torque will there be seriously 8O might be a bit different if it was a little 1600 4age with similar setup lol.

also long oil lines etc doesn't mean anything, it will be getting cooled in the long length of line, but they might also have a oil cooler in there somewhere.

i suspect engine bay space was at a premium, so it made sence to mount them else where

itll be for USA emmsions laws

in a lot of states you cant touch the cat. that means you cant move it or anything.
so in some applications they have to mount turbos after the cats for space and heat (cats need to be in a certain heat range to work). so some times the only option is where you see them above
thats also why centrifugal superchargers were/are popular for mustangs
