diagnostics mode idle/timing notches

Postby bluemaumau » Wed Mar 28, 2007 4:53 pm

my car runs at 2000rpm cold.

when i put it in diag mode it drops to 1500.

just wanting to know if there is a set rpm the car should be at when its in diagnostics mode, or wether its 500rpm lower etc.
i wouldve thought diagnostics mode wouldve been around 1000rpm :?

actually on cars it will be slightly lower then usual normal idle because of no ignition advance. So if a car idles at say 800rpm it would drop to about 600-500rpm in diagnostic mode.

i know there are six marks but my oversize pulley covers them.

high idle is caused by unregulated air by passing the throttle plate weather it be a vacuum leak or faulty Aux Air valve etc, also remember piping and cooler are after the throttle plate on 4agzes and under continuous vacuum, any loose hose clips etc will act like a vacuum leak also.

Take off the top timing cover and get it on tdc using the crankgear marks using a torch, use twink and make a mark on the cover and crank pully, now you know where tdc is. Set the base timing up approx 5-8mm before the mark on the cover and that should be sweet.

didnt I already tell you how to do this?

yea you did.

i have marked my crank pulley.

i just wondered what that pointer thingy is?

as as soon as i got the gze i put a othersized pulley on and didnt think about that thingy much more,

ive replaced all my vaccum lines and plumbing joiners, no luck

also new gaskets.

there is a brown/red valve thingy underneath the s/c outlet(pre i/c) its slightly bigger than the red and blue vsv's,

it has three lines that go to it and a plug, can you tell me what that bad boy is for? seems s/c related as 2 of the lines come from the charger and one goes to before the throttle body

sorry id did a search its the "ACV" it spreads the load on the s/c bearings

so prolly has nothing to do with idle,

so every one agrees with 20,15,10,5,0,5 ?

every other person says something different
