I have an HKS cannon, is quiet and sounds awesome. Bolt on 3".

About the size, afaik Sergei's experience was loss of power on his ST165 with CT20B and 2.5". Ill let him explain/correct me.

if you mean which is goin to be better in this situation id say you dont need more than a 2.5, some people will disagree with that though.

As for santa, ive got a sports muffler on the end and it sounds nice, just a low rumble but not annoying. Not sure of the brand, was from Magoo Mufflers.

magoo's are one of autobend's workshops, so i'd just about put money on it its an autobend/rage big bore config

all the best mufflers ive heard soundwise have been japanese aftermarket ones, usually jasma rated. i think you usually can only buy them new with a full system tho, like hks etc.
they tend to not sound like a fart in a can like the cheaper ones available here, and supress most of the crap out of the noise so you can actually hear the engine tone.

you can find them on imports quite often , they sometimes are removed and returned to standard when being sold on a yard. and the odd one pops up on trademe too. may pay to keep an eye out

I still cannot confirm the loss of power due to stupid easter and TP canceling dyno day.
But I can tell you with 3" system what I got is a lot of uncotrolled boost which costed me a lot of money to fix (about 2k).
I doubt you will run ito these problems with caldina due to completely different turbo and wastegate design.
Now I run 2 externals with very stable boost, and EBC. They are all plumb back and car is on edge of being civilized. After my mate did screamer pipe on his levin I will never ever consider doing it to my car (due to stupid noise and gazenwagen effect of the exhaust gases in the cabin).
It feels a lot faster with 3", but it maybe a placebo effect.
Next month I can confirm (unless I blow it up before that).

I was talking to a guy today who had a 90 GT4 Celica and he was saying something about a a VSV sensor or some sensor which limits the amount of boost to the turbo judging buy air temp and engine temp ? and he said he got it re wired to run a steady boost pressure ??? has anyone heard about this on the 3SGTE ?

yes. search turbo vsv , it has been covered in detail.

all it does it limit boost to x amount (usually by 3-4psi) when the engine is either too cold or too hot. if you have it its probly best to leave it in as it is a factory safety feature.
not too sure whether caldinas still have this function or not, as its a later generatrion of the 3sgte engine

What it does is it bleeds boost from actuator line (similar to boost tap) when the car is over certain temperature. if you have EBC or other boost control device, TVSV is not needed.

the 4th Gen 3SGTE does have TVSV, can be eliminated the same way (slicing and blocking pipe) DO NOT run a boost controller and still have VSV running, trust me :P

you cant see the vsv from the front, from memory the solonoid is round under the intake manifold, fivebob will be able to confirm,

if you take the intake off you can see the pipe that leads off the wastegate actuator though,

if you venture into this terriotry (spelling) we take NO RESPONSIBILITY if you cook your engine.

It's been moved from there (where it was on the GenII&III), to being mounted of the end of the cylinder head, attached to the lifting hook bracket.

well if you run the car with no TVSV and no aftermarket boost controller, you would end up with less power than you started with, think of it as a factory boost controller.

Its goin stock off the wastegate spring when dead cold, then once its warmed up, the TVSV is activated and acts as a boost controller, this then bumps it up to the 13 (or so) PSI you get normally when driving.

Hence why i said, dont run a aftermarket boost controller and TVSV.
