adjustables for a ke70 wagon??

Postby dx_conversion_4age » Thu Apr 12, 2007 7:10 pm

At the moment i have dropped my wagon by 2 inches using lowering springs in the front and blocks in the back. BUT i still want to go lower!! so am am gong to flatten my leafs and well am kind of a bit stuck how to do the front end. so i was thinking of adjustables but of anyone has a better or cheaper option that would be much appreciated. Also if anyone has used adjustables what bran is best and how much do they cost??

adjustables are very expensive 1600 ish. compress your springs and shorten shocks is easiest/cheapest.

why not just compress or cut the springs lower, not overly difficult, if you need to shorten the shocks to suit, then do so, hell even get AE92 shocks and then you get an upgrade and could hold any spring captive.

Otherwise go custom made coilovers, honda springs from pick a part, cut down to the right length, threaded tube and 2 locking nuts from steel and tube. Pair of AE92 Inserts, cut the struts, weld on the threaded tube, modify your upper spring seat to suit the honda spring. Walla, $300 coilovers that perform as good as any aftermarket ones.

then you need cert, best option, cut/compress your lowering springs.

yeah right....
but will work, and for a road car will be fine

cutting and compressing = dodgy if going to far

you may also find you need RCAs to eliminate bumpsteer.

ae92 shocks are a good source for shorter shocks. cut housings to suit as mentioned above and get some springs that fit properly

Cant see the DX wagon with Leaf springs being a hit on the circuit racing scene revvy :D

Heh, heres another idea, probaly my best one yet. Get AE92 inserts, like $100 depending on who you know. Work out how much shorter they are than stock, im thinking 60mm??? Not 100% sure about DX, then instead of making a spacer cut the strut down as far as you wanna go lower say 40mm, then just use a 20mm spacer. Shock/handling upgrade, 40mm Drop and No loss in captivity.

Only thing that will be affected is your lower spring seat height comes down 40mm. But if you have descent wheels, i.e not 17" G Zeros will be fine.

good plan

60mm is right, TRD race inserts are the same for ae86 (ke70) and ae92, to fit ae86 they require a 60mm spacer.

leaf springs ftw!!!!

Another option if you want to go stiffer than AE92 is ST191 Corona, they require a 40mm spacer, big valves.

thanks guys for all your help. At the moment most of the info kind of went over my head seeing that i haven't really done much to do with modding suspension before. so ill have a look around for some of these parts and step my way back through the process that has been suggested

funny thing happened this weekend..... and now im lowering/upgrading a ke70
have aa63 front struts, long story short, i need to move the bottom of the strut out to correct positive camber.
i dont spose anyone has come across longer bottom arms?
i would rather fit something else rather than lengthen the stock ones

kindof off topic but i guess its at least slightly relevant as modifying suspension is being discussed here so here goes:

i want to make my z20 soarer approx 80mm lower, but i don't want to fork out for adjustable coilovers (i have no use for adjustment anyway) and i would prefer to use my current springs (just spent $400 on some new "lowering" springs and the car still looks like a prado, and i dont want to feel like i wasted that money)

anyone have any ideas how i can achieve this without spending a huge amount of money and also keep it easy to wof?

80mm is a hell of a lot!!

are you sure itll still be above legal height?

theres no way to do it cheap
youll need RCAs and shortened struts.
were they dobi springs by chance?
