most 1G-E's will sit at 7-8000rpm on the rev limiter for 15-20 mins with no water and no air flow before they call it quits

Low redline, no load, no varying RPM, constant engine temp, even the cheapest crap engine should be able to do that.

Not at all impressive if you know anything about engines, though I'm sure Joe Public will be impressed, and afterall that's what the ad is designed to do, not may petrolheads will be buying Hyundais ;)

I'd be impressed with the driver if they could run it round a moderately technical track for 300hours at full throttle.
Heck I'd be impressed if anyone could drive for 300 hours straight!

How long do you think your engine would last if you set it to 6000rpm and just lef it? :?

Its' ridiculous, and as RomanV said, to impress the non-car oriented public.

It wouldn't be very good advertising if it spat a rod after an hour or two, even if it did, they wouldn't show it. Its' neither here nor there, I would be more impressed by Hyundai announcing that they were reducing emissions, and coming up with alternative-fuel engines, not running a V6 for a couple of weeks, wasting thousands of litres of fuel, and producing several tonnes of carbon monoxide, just to attempt to prove that their engines are reliable!

Idiots.

Not impressed here. No load, it uses external cooling (water is fresh and cold, it's certainly not hooked up to a radiator of any kind that you'd expect on a car), it uses an external oiling system (I assume), low redline, simple engine, there's no "underhood" temperatures to consider, yaddy yaddy ya.

put it in a box 1.2m square & self contained & then add say 2 tork converters coupled to each other & with 1 end of the 2nd one solided mounted 8O

then il be impressed

also i wana see a 3 or 4K do this test as i would reckon you would get at least that & it would only cost you about 150L in gas to do
The faster you go the quicker you get there

soarer 4.6L V8 twin turbo sold before i finished it fully

yes a rather meaningless test, usually external factors kill an engine (bad cooling system, lack of oil, bad tuning etc) my fav test was subarus 0-100,000 km record attempt with the original RS legacy in 1989, entered 3 cars, they all finished, within 3 laps of each other at a avg speed of 223 kph. now thats a test

Yeah it a meaningless test however a lot of car makers do that.

Im sure it just a way of checking the robots put it all together right. That its not off balance or what ever and the the materials used are consistent.

Be funny if you had a bad batch of steel and as a result all your conrods would just snap.

Obviously there are other ways of checking for this but its just one of the tests car makers do.

Mazda famously did it with one of their rotors, was for a stupidly long time (months) at redline.
Think it may have been to do with the development of the lemans engine?

I'm sure under the same circumstances as the hyundai ad a 4k would outlast the cockroaches.
