had an issue with declared value at work.
guy comes in for insurance valuation on KE30.very tidy, good wheels, just needed the primer painted out , so we reckon $3.5K.
car gets pinched and stripped leaving only the shell and insurance company refuse to accept valuation and are willing to pay out their 'market value' of $1000,less excess. after much heated exchanges between car owner and insurance company, they finally seen the light and accepted the fact that the car could have been insured for a higher replacement cost had it been mint.

the silly thing with older cars is that the likes of classic Fords / Holdens/ Chevs etc, they have no issue with declared value, but cannot appreciate the fact that some of the older Jap cars are actually worth something

So I changed all my policies I had with State over to AMI as they expired and I'm now with a much more friendly company where I can expect to talk to people face to face... and I'm paying a lot less than I was previously into the bargain!

Lol, you must be the only one, Most people I know have been "previous" customers of them including me, I went the other way - AMI ---> STATE

AMI were charging me $750p/a for my Ae111 then the following year I get a letter from them saying "the cost of insurance has increased around the world and we've had to reflect that in our premiums" and tried to stitch me $1200 p/a - even though I had a 60% no claims bonus and contents + another car with them, I rang them up and ever so impolitely told them to stick their policies were the sun don't shine, Am now paying almost 1/2 the amount with state

Happened exactly the same to me with my Ae101 with AMI, State were less to insure my car & contents with than AMI just for my car. & have had no probs with state when my flattie backed into my car & did about $1800 worth of damage to it. They said thats fine we'll talk to him & his insurance, we hope your allright. They even let me choose my own repairer & rung me after it was fixed to ask if i was happy with the job. Top marks for state from me

John Rae Insurance
New Plymouth

Ph 06 7588440
Fax 06 7586625

I was given these details by Leon (TS Member) & can from first hand experience say they are very easy to deal with. I did everything over the phone or via email, agreed value on my KE25, which like your 30 has a list of mods as long as an arm.

Sweet definably will talk to him.

Thing is the last thing id ever want, as well as most other genuine car enthusiests is to crash my car or leave it somewhere where it will get stolen!
Insurance money will never replace such a modified car.

So chance of theft or accident is pretty low imo. Ive never had a insurance claim, or anything to claim in my life. neither have my parents. Maybe we are lucky? I dont know.

Another thing i always worry about is brokers going under and loosing my money? Does it happen much?

I've been with AMI for years, like the rest of my family, and always found them to be really good.

Unfortunately though, they are very expensive so I will be looking elsewhere for insurance on my next car. I was also annoyed they dropped the value of my BZ from $6,700 to $3,000 without any notice (agreed value my arse; I never agreed to it being worth $3k). I made them put it back up to $6k (non-agreed value) and sold it 3 months later for $6,500.

They tried that when I had the GSR. As it happens, they were very agreeable to me getting a written valuation from a car yard and then negotiating with a price they had from one of their assessors. Worked out fine.

I don't think it would matter if they went under, they purely act as a middle man between you and insurance companies.

Much the same as mortgage brokers i'm guessing

They did exactly the same on my Corolla wagon! Then they wouldn't insure my club car (despite my friend having a Group A Rally car on his AMI insurance policy) so I told them to stick their insurance up their arse, cancelled all three of my AMI policies and moved my insurance over to state, where I haven't had an issue since. I'm not wasting my time over trying to fix something that is their policy problem, if they want to keep customers, they need to fix the problem. I've got better things to do with my time ... like post on the internet.
