STREET CAR CHALLENGE SERIES

Postby fangsport » Sun Apr 22, 2007 9:17 pm

Instead of running a single event for street cars, and have their owners bitch and moan that they don't get enough days at the track, we have come up with a solution.Seeing as they seem to need spoon-feeding, here's a ladle to lick

Street Car Challenge Series
PREAMBLE
The idea behind creating a new series within our existing Club Championship is to encourage new entrants to try actual racing and timed sprints in a safe, controlled environment. It gives the entrants a chance to improve their driving skills, whilst enabling them to also test their cars capabilities without fear of fines, demerit points, and harassment from law enforcement and the general public. It is intended to bridge the gap between illegal street-racing, and competitive motorsport, and may well serve as a way to identify new talent, and help them achieve greater success. Furthermore, it is hoped that many of the entrants may get further involved in the sport as either a co-driver, marshall, administrator, pit crew etc, and fill a void that is ever increasing due to demands placed on our current motorsport enthusiasts.
ENTRANTS
The series is open to any financial member of the South Canterbury Car Club Inc., with limited or nil competition experience.
Entrants need not hold a civil drivers licence, but must not be disqualified from driving by order of the Courts, but will be required to obtain an MSNZ Clubsport grade licence.
Any competitor under the age of 18 years, must have an ‘Authorised Minor’ form signed by their parent or guardian, and they must provide photo ID to authenticate their designation.
All entrants are bound by the standing regulations of each particular event, and will be punished accordingly for any breaches.
CAR ELIGIBILITY
The series is open to any car, provided that it complies with Sch.A.
No car may be prepared with competition safety equipment , unless certified by LVVTA.
All cars that are not registered for road use must have an MSNZ logbook.
Any roll protection fitted must be homologated and unless factory fitted (MX5, Lotus 7 replicas etc), renders the car ineligible, unless the driver is participating in driver coaching due to being too young to hold a civil drivers licence.
Any car may be entered by multiple drivers at the discretion of the organisers.
All cars must carry appropriate door flashes/advertising to be entitled to score points.
EVENTS
Any event run by the SCCC that does not require roll protection is deemed to be a qualifying round (i.e. does not include Hillclimbs/Gravel Sprints).
Most events will be conducted at Levels Raceway and will be sealed tarmac. This does not infer that any/all grass Autocross events do not count towards the series points.
½ price entry to final event in series for those who have completed in every other round.
POINTS
There will be 2 capacity classes for the series. 0 - 1850cc N/A and 1850cc - open + F/l. Equivalence factors will be used to determine capacity.
25 points will be awarded to 1st place in each class and overall, and will descend down to 1 point for each driver who enters.
20 bonus points will be added to any driver who enters every event, and a further 20 points will be added for entering every event in the same car.
Series placings will be determined by capacity classes as well as overall.
Any tie in points will be settled by a count back of the highest placings.
Any prizes/scholarships etc from winning the series, cannot be rewarded multiple times in succession, therefore reigning champion/s will forfeit to the next placed entrant.
FEES
To join the South Canterbury Car Club, there are 3 subscription options:
Junior Competing (up to 21 years old) $35
Competing $85
Competing gold card (allows free testing) $305
Once you are a financial member, a Clubsport licence can be obtained by completing the appropriate form, and sending this with $60 to MSNZ.

just north of Timaru. probably 21/2 hours drive if you take the inland road. whilst the series points are only allocated to members of the SCCC, there is no reason you can't rock on in and enter the days activities on a more casual basis. if you are under 21, it will work out a lot cheaper to join SCCC, than to pay a day membership (if applicable)

would have to be his road car!!

basic concept is this:
get them out for a few sealed autocrosses/ bent sprints. up their skills and make them a safer driver, then:
get them into dual car sprints/ pursuit sprints etc until:
they have the required skills to legally race their mates in a grid race.

reasoning behind it is due to:
A. feedback from guys that want to do more events, but the messages from the local performance shops wasn't getting passed on as to the events they could enter,
B. the desire to race each other,
C. the irony of having a 'boy-racer' or 'hoon' problem in SC but organising events for 15-20 cars.
D. because i'm good bastard and i can!!!

Do we just turn up on the day with our helmet, fire extinguisher, 100% cotton overalls, etc etc, and pay on the same day too?

you might want to post a link to this in the in the Dunedin / Lower South Island Region section as there might be some keen peeps, but they're unlikely to regularly read this section (eg I only read about it it from NZHondas).

Since the original post, i have had some positive feedback from potential entrants, but very negative feedback from the performance shops. maybe they are scared that some of these guys won't be able to spend as much money on knock-off import crap that dosn't work, if they were to enter 4-5 events per year.

in effect, the series is in limbo. the idea was there, and i did try, but unless there is massive interest this weekend from the street competitors i'll take it on the chin as another concept that failed. i will then on-sell my committees dates at Levels, as it is a waste of our resource consent if only 15-20 regulars turn up.

What performance shops is giving you crap? Will it not be on anymore? Will it still go through if it rains?

not one to name and shame, but you know who they are??
the day is still on, but unless there is a massive surge in membership from the street car guys that want to do these types of events, then the series won't happen.
Rain??? make for a wee bit of fun, and equalise the HP advantage people think they have.
