Anyone know of any Turbo 2ZZGE's?

Does anyone know of an actual turbo'd 2zzge engine around?

Or has anyone had one in bits to see how strong the internals etc etc are?

What about supercharging? The Lotus Exige. I think TRD also have a supercharging kit.
From my understanding its the oil pumps that are weak in those engines.

That was only a certain batch of engines afaih (Saffa built) and it was to do with harmonic resonance.

Wazza will elaborate further I'm sure.

Have heard of three supercharged celicas all done in Auckland, and all died a natural(considering the comp ratio) death prior to being paid off.

I intend to do turbo my little RunX.

The oil pump isn't just the SA built ones, but also appears to be caused by mis-shifts more than an actual fault with the pump... well, something about the harmonic stuff not being right over 10000RPM(hence the mis-shift thing).

NA it is an awesome engine, Turbo it looks to be quite good too.

For any engine parts, try "C2 Power" and "Monkey Wrench Racing"... they seem to be about the only places doing stuff, or atleast collating parts into an easily buyable place.

Ask away, I've learned heaps about them in the last 9 months or so.

Pic? preferably of the engine bay... or better yet, of the exhaust header etc, although that'd be a confusing pic from above or below the engine on a 2zz.

Been down the supercharging route before and well,

the results suct arsse.

Superchargers are for road cars and 1500hp+ V8's.

on a 1600/1800/2000cc they are too restrictive and power absorbing.

On the 2zz there are two SC kits that I know of, both give relatively ok'ish results, but cost way too much($5k and $8k, for ~220-240HP) for the minimal benefit.

How about a 505ps 1.8L Celica with a 2zz?

and crap.... stock internals, s/c bolted on blowing through stock intake....

The Blitz blower one is mounted somehow in front of the factory intake, blows to a front mount, then into the engine. They re-flash the ECU somehow(two weeks as it is sent to Germany). Seems to give 220ish HP(atw) with nothing else done, and costs $8k NZ plus install

The Greddy blower removes the factory intake and replaces it with an all in one blower(ML45?) intake thing, like the big V8s have, no intercooler, and engine management is done with a piggyback Greddy Ultimate. Includes 440cc injectors(factory are 330ish depending on year)Seems to give ~240HP(atw) with no other mods.

Both have electric clutch on them, the Blitz one gets called barker, as it tends to bark if you blip the throttle... there are some mean as videos on my old site...

Turbos have definitely had more development though.

Matt: What type of S/C were you using?

we were using a SC14 on a 1GGZE/1GGTE.

Experimented with the turbo, supercharger, and twincharge setup's
and found the more you relied on the s/c the worse the car went.

the twincharge setup made 30psi at 1200 rpm, which created far too much wheelspin, and then when it got above 5000rpm where the hp was made, the s/c took too much power out of the engine to compress the air.
we used a BOV to control boost back to 20 psi.

We were running mid field at a 2 day event, went home took out the s/c and bent up a piece of U shaped exh tubing and replaced the S/C with the piece of pipe and went back the next day and were straight away in the top 2 or 3.

S/C would be my choice for a road car, but not a race only machine.
