Turboing a 5EFHE in a EL54(?) Cynos.

Postby Crampy » Fri May 18, 2007 12:58 am

I've heard (well done a search) the 4EFTE computer will plug straight into a normal 5EFHE Cynos loom no worries. Do you need to change the ignitor or coil or dizzy or any other stuff to get it going?

I know the 4EFTE MAP sensor and injectors need to be used and that a aftermarket fuel pressure reg can be used to get the fuelling right for the extra capacity of the engine. Is it better to use the 315cc (pink) 3SGE injectors?

So, with that stuff and the 4EFTE ECU, the 5EFHE will handle boost and retard timing properly up to the boost max boost of 14psi (when fuel cut kicks in)? Well the computer will handle things accordingly, maybe not the motor itself...

All the sensors are the same except MAP.
Use Turbo Starlet injectors and ECU of the same year.
You might use 3SGE injectors but make sure the are high impedance (starlet injectors are 295cc from memory). Anyway if they are low impedance they will have different plugs. 14psi is a bit stretching, but 9psi should be fine.

i wouldn't bother running 14psi if your gonna be using a ct9, it'll get too hot and you might go backwards in performance :P try around 10-12 :P

Sweet, just what I wanted to know. Yeah I know it's not going to handle 14psi with the CT9. Just confirming the fuel cut would be at 14psi and the timing would retard properly when boosting.

So, with a later model Cynos (1995), I would need to get a Glanza or EP92 ECU and the earlier Cynos (1990) I would use a EP82 ECU?

Sorry, just read your reply again. You mean to match the injectors to the ECU of the same model, not the year of the car I'm putting them in?

That might not even make sense to you, but it sounded right in my head hehehe.

Hard to explain, but I think I get what I need to do.

EL4X cynos use EP82 ecu
EL5X cynos use EP91 ecu.
If you have manual you will have to use manual ecu.

Oh, good to know.
Cheers.

I've done a search on google and I see that there are other injectors the same size as the GT starlet ones. Provided they are the same impedence, I'll be able to use either of them.

Bugger.

You could still use them with ballast resistors though.

you may want to look into doing it properly. with a aftermarket ecu. and a decent turbo setup. the 4efte stuff is pretty average

There is always that option, but even just the 4EFTE stuff will show good gains over stock. That and it's quite a bit cheaper than going for exotic parts and aftermarket goodies.

Sweet, I've got some injectors on the way already thanks. Got them for $5 on trademe hehehe.

Got two 4EFTE MAP sensors already as well. One is for my 4AGTE project though.

I don't know whether to get a Cynos and turbo it, or buy another AE82 or AE92 FXGT and turbo that.
I like 4AGEs better, but I've never had a cynos or a 4E or 5E powered car. Late model Cynos are not badly priced as well.
