When the car is cold, the injectors have a longer duty cycle. And the mechanic didn't finish the job if the fans are always running.

Id say its a 98% chance it needs a new thermo....

EVERY (quite afew) 20v's I have pulled the thermo from have been dated with the year built (never been replaced) an most are jammed open

If toyota is open on saturday ill pop down and buy a new thermo and replace the old one.. if it still runs cold then must have something to do with aircon i guess.. Will post up the outcome on the weekend if anyones interested..

even if the aircon fan is runing non stop the thermo would stop the water cycling when it drops below 82.

Yea, you need to jump the pins where one of the pressure switches on the ac system were to stop that.

the plug below the ignitor/coil runs onto a switch in the a/c alloy line

try either opposite two, maximum 2 tries to get right ones ;).
Removing AC will not make car cooler (as in bad thermostat symptom) full stop. The only thing what it affects is that bloody fan. AC idle up solenoid normally is not activated so it should not affect idle. If in doubt you can disconnected it is located behind air intake pipe (the one which is between AFM and inlet manifold), just pull the plug of the solenoid and see if it makes the difference (it should not).
